Holidays

We’re off to Stockholm on Monday for 4 nights. Really looking forward to the break, have been to the city a couple of times with work, but never had opportunity to explore and really take it in. Will probably visit Upssala too.

Just looked at the forecast - its going to be (almost too) hot in the day, but the light, warm evenings should be most agreeable.

Recommendations most welcome.

Enjoyed Copenhagen immensely. Beautiful, clean city with great bars and food scene. Much larger than I expected it to be.

Cracking views on the approach to Stockholm.

Shame the brexit passport queue was 70mins long.

Still, we’re here now.

When it comes to hotel room slippers, the Swedish are smashing it.
Blue small, red large, both pairs have a luxurious padded sole.
Other worldly.

Lovely city to wonder around, probably the cleanest and most well presented EU capital I’ve visited. Even the tourist tat street is pretty much immaculate.

Found a hifi shop full of expensive tac.

And a book I’d like, shame it wasn’t in English.

Train to Upssala for the day.

Upper deck - immaculate.

Any particular plans while in Sweden at midsummer?

'Kin expensive at times is Stockholm. £68 for some mash, small balls of meet and half + quarter pint. Nice though.

:grimacing: Salt Bae styley.

Ikea’s cheaper, no beer though.

I used to go to Sweden quite regularly & recall (just about!) one fine trip North of Uppsala into Dala Land. Very pretty region full of lakes & orange painted wooden horses. It was August & they were celebrating with Kraftskiva (freshwater crayfish) so most evenings seemed to be spent eating those, barbecued, along with a lot of beer & Schnapps.

I did like Stockholm & particularly Gamla Stan (Old town) & Stampen (the Pawnshop bar of ‘Jazz at the…’ fame) was a very entertaining evening, not just trad Jazz either as I recall.

Then on to Belgium for my wife’s 10 year Europe anniversary party with all the Canadian big wigs over for a bit of back slapping

Just returned this afternoon from Gay Pareee.

Nice couple of days in a chi chi Airbnb. Very good Brancusi exhibition yesterday with much food and drink before and after.

The precious luggage did indeed pick up some bumps and bruises at a bootleg left luggage place near Gare Du Nord (the official one was shut) but it could have been worse.

Upon collection mec #1 yelled “leather” to mec #2 who was rootling around in the mountain of cases at the back of what was otherwise a mobile phone repair shop.

He duly produced the wife’s Cabin Zero, and something that had clearly been the first thing to hand as a high-ranking Nazi officer was preparing to flee Berlin in 1945, and had then accompanied him in his new life in Argentina ever since.

Me: Non. Pas celui ci

We got there in the end.

Sitting on the balcony in lake Garda as the storm brews , …lightning is starting to appear and the trees are dancing

Not a bad opening line for a novel.
Not as good as the one with the bats and the desert, but not bad at all.

Storms on the other side of the lake are great watch. Not so good if it’s over your hotel.
How far into the lake is the balcony?
