32-34 is fine if it’s a dry heat. Too much humidity & it’s less comfortable.

What were the chances of you sharing a chalet with Mick Lynch though?

Kefalonia.

Very stressful drive down to this beautiful tiny beach today on a very rough and narrow road. We shared it with 8 other people.

It is now raining in a fucking biblical way, never seen anything like it on our many visits to Greece.

We recently got back from an amazing holiday to Iceland. We were lucky enough to go along with the MiL as a late 70th Birthday present as she has always wanted to go and see a Volcano!
Our 3rd holiday with the Baby and she did amazingly well over the week despite the airport delays and large amounts of time in the car and moving around hotels as we explored the Southern Coast.

Full photo album here:

We started off in with a very short stay in Reykjavík, by the time the flight got in and transfer (a brief sight of the active volcano from the airport drive which was nice!) it was dinner time so after checking in we were straight out to find something quick and easy, came across ‘Meze’ resturant which had an superb lamb fillet steak, Lamb and Seafood set the tone for the weeks food!

No sooner that morning we were straight out for the first booked excursion, ‘Inside the Volcano’. It would have been nice to spend a bit more time in the city but hey ho.

And a treat of seeing an artic fox just as we were heading on the hike back

This was a great experience, bit of a chilly short hike to the volcano and then the decent into it via a lift.

We then had a bit of a rush to collect the hire car and luggage to drive down to the Stracta Hotel in Hella, via the Thingvellir National Park which was very scenic and then a stop at the Laugarvatn Fontana Steam Baths which was lovely for a few hours and the little one loved it!

Next day was our ‘Superjeep’ tour in the ‘Highlands’, mostly in the Jallabak Nature Reserve and Landmannalaugar area, a private whole day tour in a big 4x4 which was just amazing, guide was great over the whole day and gave us access to areas far less travelled by hire car.
Just an amazing day, far too many unique landscapes to capture, weather was not the best but just being able to access these places was the treat.

Such an alien landscape, everywhere was pretty stunning and just impossible to capture with the camera the scale of the area.

Next day was a long drive to the superb Fosshotel at the Glacier Lagoon, a lovely hotel for two nights and then a stop over in Vik and back to the airport. The follwing time was our self drive to wherever we wanted.
All the waterfalls (Skógafoss - Very wet and busy, Foss á Síðu - Sunny and quiet plus many others) two Glacier Lagoons ( Fjallsjökull and Jökulsárlón) as well as the Reynisfjara black beach and Stokksnes.
Driving was great out here, very quite for the most time outside of the city, lovely smooth roads and just endless flat straight sections.

We had two other excursions, the Lava Show in Vik and Lava Tunnel in Raufarhólshellir which was great to tick off the tourist check lists!

Yes Iceland is expensive, and would love to go back in the future when child(ren) are older so we can explore more off the beaten track but food was amazing everwhere we went, everyone was so welcoming and made it somewhat easy that everyone there speaks excellent english even if its a but of a challenge to pronounce a lot of the place names!

Just the contrast too with the level flat spaces that the Hringvegur (main island ring road) highway cuts through contrasting with the vast lava fields and huge rocky landscapes. The delicate moss that covers much of the landscape from bright green to snowy white, lack of any trees outside of cultivated new forests and black sand/earth/rocks felt very alien.

Roads down to those beaches are unreal. I vividly remember driving a Fiat Panda down them 20 years ago.

Indeed they are. We were last in Kefalonia 24 years ago (pre kids). That was the first time I ever drove a LHD car (Fiat Cinquecento),I have found it far more stressful this time.

Age I reckon.
