Hahahaha. Amateur hour.
Except I suspect would have to drop down to two nights due to cost. Could go left field and Hazlitt’s. Too much choice, as all appear to have decent availability at the moment. Perhaps one of the few benefits of the Iran war.
I suppose the IBIS on Marylebone Road is preferred?
Uber expensive, true, but, is there anything else like it ?
Stayed for 2 nights, for our 10th wedding anniversary, 11 years ago and still remember it.
Each to their own but £700 a night for a hotel doesn’t compute for me. When we go on a city break we are out from after breakfast till after 10pm. I’d rather “slum it” on a £200 a night place and spend £500 a day on amazing food, theatre or another live show or experience then back to the room for some sleep before the next day’s activities. If funds are unlimited then fair enough.
I’ve no comment on the hotels, but have some very definite thoughts on restaurant options. Fallow in particular is absolutely extraordinary, and not as expensive as one might expect. @Gyroscope can also confirm that the St John restaurants are also excellent.
A few photos from Fallow for you:
A trip to Luxembourg to see the wife’s cousin and my mate, who both live there, is maybe turning into a solo journey for a boy’s weekend.
Just checking the train instead of the plane (propellor shitbox out of LCY) and it doesn’t actually look too bad. Two hours to Brussel-Zuid then 3hr20 SNCB Intercity to Luxembourg. Doable in a day really. ![]()
The Brussels → Luxembourg legs are €21.30 each way ![]()
Someone recommended a good place for hire car excess insurance, have a feeling it was @HughJanus ???
Off to see friends in Munich in May and hiring a car with AVIS so want to avoid their rip off ‘no excess’ insurance costs?
It was me Chris.
Questor Annual policy @ £42. It may be cheaper in Europe too.
Cheers, just ordered ![]()
Thanks tel,
Funny, I was in Oban a few days ago. On Iona now.. stunning weather.
We can see Skye on the horizon today.
Haha I can see it!
Right, I think that’s the latter half of 2026 “60th tour” all organised and nearly all booked.
NI in July
Luxembourg in August
Munich in September (second weekend of Oktoberfest)
Antwerp in October
Americans probably coming over in November
I’ve also promised old school friends a whisky tasting (or something similar) in London at some point. Having seen them drink that may have been a bit hasty ![]()
Mustn’t book anything else.
Have you been across to Staffa?
Not this time, but on a previous trip. Although we weren’t able to land, as they were working on the jetty. We wanted to go this time, but again it’s closed to landings. When we went, the boat went into the mouth of the cave, which was pretty awe inspiring!
