Horn Videos Playing Jizz šŸ’©

There are lots of you who do this are there?

Video sharing is quite popular, as is not believing in videos.

Some of us even try to keep same recordings across so that we can compare across continents.

For example, here is Hoelscher’s Dvorak Cello concerto playing in an Altec 817 in Bugaria

https://youtu.be/V_Uzqmau1e8

In Cessaro Gamma in Bangkok - I have physically heard this system but this recording was sent to me by the owner later once he bought the LP

https://youtu.be/ZGgiGGLtSTI

And then one in Oslo. Same, physically heard this system and the recording, but he then got a tape and sent me one. So this tape.

Compare these Dvorak Cello concertos, all great, to this

Everyone needs a hobby

There are definite differences between the 817 and the Klipschhorns and I’m still trying to work it out, these are the two I’ve been listening to.

I’m not sure whether there is something lacking in none or added in the other.

Anyway, for better or worse my set-up has much higher order crossovers. Maybe be another six months (hopefully!) before I get any tunes through them.

Maybe I can play something through them and post, once I do :face_with_spiral_eyes:

There is no klipschorn. It is a vitavox corner horn.

You bring in a good point, is one adding or one subtracting. Now, if you got multiple recordings on both, especially of a recording you are familiar with, you would be able to confirm that. But that is a good thing to listen for.

Aye. Still don’t get it, but each to their own I suppose.

Here’s black sabbath on Zellaton speakers plus hundreds of thousands of Goldmund electronics. You have to listen to it on Zuckbook

It’s the system of Myles Astor, positive feedback Sr. Reviewer. It was first on YouTube but when I posted the video compare with the Altec 817 he deleted his YouTube video, though it is still on Facebook.

Here is the Altec 817 for comparison. The above part starts around 1:20

Just the drums and guitar are a fun listen

I bet you and your golden eared mates can also detect different cables in double blind conditions over your phones as well?

Golden ears is not about keen listening, it is about process and discipline and listening over and over, and not being stubborn. We don’t do cables because it sucks. We were not into videos but converted, and ears grew - golder ?

This is not to tell someone who can hear or cannot. But unless you try and do some recordings, and play back, and suspend disbelief till you do the process, you won’t hear it. Dunno if you played back on phone, laptop, or streamed to a speaker, that will show how seriously you were willing to evaluate and look for the differences.

Next time you hear a difference between something clearly in room, please take videos of the two and post back and ask what people here hear. Play the video ack yourself as well.

Yes, the Vitavox is basically a Klipschorn but with Vitavox drivers, so likely better quality, though the same design. I got it wrong though as that’s how I think of them when I see them

So just to clarify, you do or you don’t think different cables make an audible difference?

I have compared Zensati, 16k Audioquest K2 (read the hilarious feedback on them on amazon), Kubala Sosna, hi fidelity, Synergistic Research, Graditech, the most expensive of the crystal cables, and some of the cheaper cables. Of course I hear audible difference, but not of importance, or not necessarily something that is not a coloration. The Altec 817 above, for example, has very low priced cables and is one of my favorite systems over systems that have super expensive cables. They are required in Wilson Magico type system to tune the highs and lows when the set up gets f*ed

So what cables do you use with your own speakers?

Ah now that does explain how you can discern these incredible details of horn set ups playing jazz through a phone :+1:

When I had Martin Logan Summits I had Virtual Dynamics Master, and of various compared Graditech sounded the best. That time I knew less than I did now. When I had Verity Leonore, I had audience, which I still own. When I set up the Altec 817, which will be only with a new place, it will continue to be audience. But that is just by default not planned it for sonics. The guy whose Altec 817 I like uses mostly no name cables and as I am trying to replicate his sound, I will, to paraphrase Meg Ryan, have what he is having. Cables generally don’t interest me in the hobby anymore, the compares I did got rid of my itch. For me this hobby is about developing an itch, scratching it, moving on to the next itch.

Comparing the chaconne to me the obvious is:
They are at different speeds
The volume of the recordings is different
Room acoustics are very different
Tonal balance is quite different in particular the horn set up has a very forward presentation of the violin, not that Ive ever heard it as such in reality…

Having read a number of your posts/blogs I suspect I would have a similar preference to you but these videos are a poor way to complete compares IMO…

They are not different speeds. The start is at different points so you might have to find a common point to start from. It is the same record. This is only due to lack of familiarity with the recording.

Well if you are hearing the tonal balance is different, and one horn has a particular forward presentation, you are hearing something.

Thats not what i asked is it.
