How do you feel? (Part 1)

Why are the UK’s numbers worse than the US (death rate)? Is this down to testing? …or is it timing and there’s a huge wave of deaths to hit in the US? I thought the US was handling this as badly or worse than the UK? Probably missing something obvious here

What hook are the WHO on?

Trump (& no doubt Johnson) were first formally notified about this virus on January 3rd. The speed of it’s spread was apparent by the 3rd week in January and people then were warning of a pandemic. Unfortunately Trump was too busy blowing up Iranian Generals (and holding campaign rallies throughout February) while dismissing the virus as a hoax. Here we were more concerned with getting Brexit ‘done’ & getting Big Ben to chime and then Parliament seemed to shut down in February.

It’s a bit lazy to be blaming the Chinese government for failing to warn us here in the West. You only had to put the TV on to see what was happening in Wuhan yet we continued then to let almost unlimited flights arrive from China. We let pubs & restaurants stay open, large sporting events & concerts take place (Johnson was pictured at the Rugby just before Cheltenham happened). The scientific advice was that such events were unlikely to be the cause of infection spreading.

We simply can’t say we were caught unawares. Dogma meant we wouldn’t participate with other EU states in the procurement of PPE & ventilators nor in the meetings that took place to attempt a co-ordinated response. Everything about the UK’s response so far has been too little & too late.

I think that there was a disbelief that the UK would tolerate any form of lockdown. Turns out the media and politicians underestimated the general population.

Ah, the benefits of getting your scientific advice from behavioural scientists & data modellers rather than specialists in communicable diseases, virologists etc who’ve actually been left outside the decision making group.

Don’t get me wrong, The Govt have made an arse of it, big time. They have made it far worse than it could have been, and should have locked down borders far sooner, in addition to lockdown, contact tracing, leasing with EU etc.But I do think that the lack of transparency from the Chinese Govt, and WHO failings are so serious that it would be wrong not to ask serious questions of them.

What are they?

Have you got some examples of how the Chinese government were lacking transparency such that it caused our government to disregard the fact that they were starting to (very publicly) build new hospitals on Jan 24th? Presumably this lack of transparency was occurring before then and our government would have leapt into action had they not been so misinformed.

Remember we’d also had Operation Cygnis in 2016 ‘wargaming’ exactly this kind of outbreak but the government chose not to act on its conclusions. Too busy voting to retain the 1% pay cap on ‘Our’ NHS workers

The Govt probably wouldn’t have acted more proactively, earlier. But the Chinese Govt definitely tried to suppress info on the outbreak during December with the doctor who discovered the beginnings of this.

Ultimately I think that if the Chinese government had been totally open, our government would have done nothing different. Nor would America. It had to get here and kill people here for the serious measures to have been acceptable to them.

Some fucking people, kept getting emails from someone chasing a jewellery repair with us. I must have said twenty times, we are shut go away, politely. They finally stopped emailing saying stay safe, it’s not essential travel etc.

Two days heard nothing, thought it was dealt with.

Today:
Can I buy a cheap replacement ring from you to wear while I wait for the other one.

WTF is wrong with people. We are shut, it’s not essential, buying a replacement ring to sit at home wearing it???! WTF
Leave me alone you twats

Odds of the yanks knowing, thinking just them knowing gives them an ‘advantage’, especially against the Chinese, and not sharing with ANYONE including other depts in the US govt and especially not the other alphabet agencies … close to 100% based on past behaviour

You may well get more emotional reading the comments on that film on YouTube
