How do you feel? (Part 1)

Antwerp Hilton = one of the few Hiltons I’ve enjoyed staying in.

Not Paris Hilton?

That would be a very short stay :unamused:

and it’s the only place in the world where I can sit in the restaurant having breakfast and a Ford Transit rolls past with my surname written on the side in 3 foot high letters.

They have a funny way of spelling over there

and yet uncannily close.

I think this particular van was a fishmonger.

I’m all about the fish, me.

There is always Stranraer to Larne crossing.

There is Rosslare to Fishguard also. None of which go directly to where I want to go. Even Liverpool to Belfast involves ball-ache. So, nope it’ll be the Ryanair el-cheapo to Dublin (or Cork) if/when I need to go.

Done that many, many times :grimacing:

Seacat FTW when flights weren’t really the done thing.

Hope you made the most of the delights of Larne.

It was the 90s. I have precisely zero memory of either end, just the crossing itself.

Hurltastic.

Is there still an Holyhead - Dun Laoghaire crossing ?

Yes.

This is our backup plan for getting to Norn Iron avoiding planes.

Just need to get from London to Holyhead.

We’d done that crossing a couple of times in our camper during the early 90s. I wasn’t sure if it was still operating. Good to know.

I took the fast ferry a few years back so it was still going then. It was pretty scruffy and uncomfortable.

I was thinking it’s a reasonably close option for you. But, yes, like the Manx ferry services (even back then) it was a bit run down.

I made the mistake of asking the wife this morning if the Holyhead service was still running.

I got a 10 minute discourse of all available ferry routes.

We haven’t taken a ferry since the 90s. It’s clear that she’s been doing exhaustive research into how we’re going to get to her mother’s.

You’ve got to factor in the drive across to Hollyhead. That was at least 2 hours if my memory serves me correctly. You can fly over at 8:00 on Saturday morning and back at 20:00 on Sunday and have a pretty full weekend. You would need to add two days on by using the ferry. If we were going for two weeks touring and hoidaying it would be a different matter.
