Integrated hot amp advice, recommends and nonsense

Have you got a separate phonostage or are you looking for one in the integrated?

Got a few so a phonostage isn’t really necessary.

@murrayjohnson borrowed one of those (or something very similar) for a 300B bake off we did many years ago.
It was a nice sounding thing, it struggled a little with the LVs we were using but with 101dB speakers you should be fine.

I would source one in the UK though

I think Definitive have the Triode range if amps from Japan, they are very nicely finished

There are class AB units (they have a zero as the middle number), class A units (zero at the end) and valve units (whatever fucking number they fancied at the time). Both the 550 and 590 are magnificent things.

Thanks, very useful info.

I’m sure it sounds great but there’s something about the aesthetics of Wavac equipment that I really don’t like.

Fair enough. Funny it’s just the opposite for me, love the looks.

Won’t you miss looking at it while you’re listening? They’re lovely things both musically and aesthetically. I don’t listen to my Solista that often but when I do it’s always a pleasure. And have you seen the price of new Viva kit these days? :scream:

The big expensive Wavac stuff looks OK but the MD series is cheap looking by comparison.

101dB? Decware Zen could be worth a punt :+1:

Never seen in the flesh. Plus, it’s too expensive for me.

I was going to suggest that, but decided to wait for someone else to do so

It’s an enjoyable amp for not a lot of money. Would always make a good stand in while deciding what to do.
