Interesting Speakers

To fall through the floor boards they would have to first ascend into the house which is erm, somewhat elevated

Can’t they fly themselves there?

It’s like an M.C Escher drawing

Perhaps Definitive merely commissioned them from these guys, who have resurrected the design?

I’m pretty sure (but can’t find the pics) that O’Heocha also made a few pairs in a very similar ā€˜Flash Gordon’ style - not the 3-legged/1-eyed aliens everyone remembers, but in the same polished alloy finish as those.

Penisaurs or bust I say😁

Meh - half the radiating area of the speakers is blocked by the grille. Ok I suppose if you like listening to music in slices :smirk:

No, if I recall correctly they were some very wealthy client’s concept which Kevin then got made finding the companies that would create the various elements the hardest bit being finding someone who’d cast the bronze casing well. But the 3 fins each one stands on were things of wonder by themselves.

I think he went on to use the same casting company to make the bronze bits of the Vox Olympians.

I’m guessing the original customer came up with the TinTin rocket shape.

I also recall the whole deal being very carefully wrapped in legal agreements & Kevin getting paid being rather nerve wracking.

Want. All of them.

Well, I guess without comment from either of the parties, further explication is unlikely…

Does seem bizarre that anyone would invest so much money, time and effort into a speculative product that will have to sell for such a huge price and risk copyright and trademark infringement - tho’ the whole ā€œWorld’s Most Expensive Speakerā€ thing will do some of their selling for them, and a nice ol’ scandal would do the rest…

I’m more surprised that it’s taken the customer 20 years or so to do it. I presume he’ll have had to get the details of the contractors who made the components of the first pair & re-use moulds, jigs etc.

The originals were quite interesting to listen to as, contrary to expectation, the very heavy & dead enclosures contributed little or nothing so alongside whichever Avatar OBX model of the time shared the same drivers & crossover they were notably less coloured & would go a lot louder without everything joining in, which the standard wooden cabinets were more prone to do.

Seas Nextel drivers for mid bass.

I feel like I lost track of this story before I even read the first bit…

Then again, I’ve been drinking since 3pm…

It may be in these agreements the copywrite was bound? If the client came up with the name and design in some ways this might make sense?

Had a listen to a pair of these Diptyque speakers at the UK Audio show today. Impressive sounds from something just 42mm deep. Loved the bonkers baffle cloth prints.

Thay should have done the baffle cloths with pictures of cats.
They would have sold loads

I couldn’t imagine wanting to sit and listen to them regardless of what they sound like, such is the visual assault.

God they look awful

No idea if this is any good. Applause from Japan is however in the wind.
