They look quite chunky compared to previous versions.
Reminds that I need to sell my OBX-R2
They sounded decent when me, Jim and Pete heard them. Problem was we’d just heard the Gotos.
I thought well north of that. Will have to see.
I think I saw that they were £38,000.
Would need a very special deal !
Whut?
The various LV OB wotsits I’ve listened to have all sounded ‘quite nice’ but nothing that’s tempted me to own a pair. But best part of £40k?
When I spoke to Kevin about them in November, he was looking between 35k and 45k, depending on the level of foo in the crossover and which plinths were being used. I think a pricing structure similar to ibx/obx, just at a different level.
When I heard them they sounded very nice. But then, the obx rw4 in the other room sounded way better, and like a different speaker, to what I’d heard before from ibx and obx rw2 or 3 previously (it is a lot different in the rw4 version but still the same basic idea). @sjs linestage and poweramp mixed with various Kondo might have helped I suppose😁.
Lol
What was the difference with the rw4 compared to rw3 ?
Spent some time with them yesterday, very nice. Big and grown up compared to RW4, and v coherent as you would expect from LV
Never heard them side by side. Was trying to say whenever I have heard any of the iterations they have never sounded as big and with as much bass as they sounded in that room where Simon has posted the pics of the R80. It is almost as if there is a subwoofer somewhere hidden in the room.
Of course, if anyone is going to get them absolutely singing it is going to be the guy who designed and developed them.
I’m interested because I have an old pair of RW3s. I assume you can upgrade to the latest spec.
Kevin certainly gets the system singing in his room. It can be an expensive visit.
I have an old pair of R’s. They are the best ones.
My bank account has decided this for me.
It was a while ago but there was a time when Kevin was trying to develop a sub/rear firing super tweeter set up, with two subs and rear firing TAD HF units…
Yes please!
What’s going on there?
The 18" driver is GIP 9461 (reproduction of WE-4181A) seems there may be some time alignment with the 12A /555. It’s probably the most compact integration of a 18" horn bass and 12A I’ve seen (Even if the off set directional appearance sets my OCT beacon flashing) I’d love to hear it! I’ve still got x2 18" drivers here wondering what to do with them.
