Interesting Speakers

More like Romy The Cat.

I think I’d be falling over the wires and boxes after a few scoops.

Thought it was his system.

Yes definitely his. Apart from the unusual speakers the amps are a give away.

Avalons are a fairly decent size :flushed:

Like the all expense spared wall, and the crossover shrine. And the “Pah! I spit on your puny high end commercial speakers vibe.” Points deducted for the McIntosh tt?

A few from Munich

Thomas Mayer had this 4 way system in his room which, given it was a booth out on the main exhibition hall, didn’t sound too bad. Admire Audio. I think this guy used to bring sample drivers to the ETF gatherings to get feedback on. There were actually 2 different tweeters next to the horn although one isn’t visible.

This huge and weird looking multiway horn set up moved some serious air and had a Latin name I’ll need to look up. There were 2 of these bass towers each with what looked like a load of Fostex drivers radiating to the rear.

No Koreans with WE speakers this year. They’re opening a museum shortly in Seoul and the logistics of doing that and Munich were too much. I’m told they’ll be back next time.

Plenty of mad Chinese in traditional gowns (skirts?) with their all field coil monsters.

These from Thrax sounded good and used BMS drivers with clever crossovers, EQ and motion feedback control of the twin 15" bass drivers.

Possibly the most interesting sound there, for me anyway

You’d have despised 95% of it Pete (as I did) but would’ve enjoyed the Ruff burger from the usual place, sitting in sun outside🙏

Are the speakers made by them?

I remember really liking the Thrax room last time I went. (10 years ago :astonished: )

Yes, a new model called Gaida or some such. Not cheap but the nothing at this show is remotely affordable these days.

I had a nice chat with Andy Whittle (Rogers) on the shuttle bus in. He’s taken on the manufacture of the Decca cartridges, acquired a good quantity of parts and is reverting to Alcomax magnets after 30+years of Neodymium. Sounds as if they are really trying to do them properly so I look forward to trying one at some point, maybe with AN silver wire and a nice tip on the top model.

There’s a massive marketing opportunity here for aerial walkways for mice.

I’ve returned now but apart from chocolates the attitude in Munich with exhibitors is that you take anything else & you’ll feel the cold steel of a stiletto between the 4th & 5th ribs.
