Rest of the World: [wrings hands] “Why does this keep happening?”
Meanwhile, the Guardian has sacked Steve Bell after over forty years work for his allegedly ‘antisemitic’ cartoon (which they published online, and then swiftly redacted the moment the allegation was made). Decide for yourself:
I don’t see it, but then merely using the a-word is enough, especially when all and every criticism of the State of Israel is inevitably branded antisemitic and thereby shut-down without question.
Strangely, and by way of the starkest-possible contrast, casually treating Palestinians as terrorists, herding 2.4 million of them into a giant, walled prison-camp, and then starving and murdering them en-masse attracts none of the antisemitic labels or comparisons with the Holocaust being so readily bandied-about by Israeli complainants.
This casually ignores the fact that they are racially identical to the Israeli people, and thus attacking them is also profoundly ‘antisemitic’. A proper examination of the term exposes it as long-obsolete (outside of lingusitics!). But then we all know that, we just lack the spine to stand up for truth and fair-play, and assert that racism is racism, terrorism is terrorism, and genocide is genocide - irrespective of who the victims and who the war-criminals are…
I was having a similar conversation with a friend this weekend. Anything criticising Israel is seen as anti-Semitic. And they play that card ALL THE TIME. And the rest of the world nods in agreement without ever saying there is a difference between being anti-Semitic and anti-Isreal.
While that continues Israel are free to do whatever they want to whoever they choose.
I listened to a really interesting piece on BBC R4 by Katia Adler that charts the history of Israel. Very interesting and balanced will listen to morr tomorrow.
This whole appalling nonsense forms a toxic feedback loop whereby actual antisemites/racists seize-upon Israeli hyper-defensiveness and the exceptionalism inherent in (though not exclusive to) orthodox Judaism as proof in their deranged minds that there is in fact a zionist cabal conspiring to manipulate western governments…
Utter, poisonous insanity abounds under every upturned stone…
stuff I’ve seen is saying that Hamas don’t have any rockets big enough for that size of explosion and damage. They have thousands of small home made 10-20kg payload rockets but nothing like the size of the ones Israel has been using.
I was going to post something similar, but my knowledge of things that go bang is rubbish.
Jeremy Bowen last night said that all the Hamas rockets have been relatively small and certainly nothing big enough to take out a whole hospital.
Whoever did this, though, are monumental cunts
Don’t have access to Twitter/X on this PC to link to posts, but off the top of my head, I’m following OSINTtechnical, Justin Bronk, OSINTdefender accounts. There are others but cant recall rn.
No-one is saying conclusively, just saying what the leaning seems to be, based on photos that are emerging.
Regardless of who did it though, sadly, I think the likelihood of something like this happening was always fairly high.
Seems to be a lot of plausible talk concerning Iran engineering the original Hamas-flagged attack. They certainly have the strategic resources to plan such a thing, and they are openly determined to prevent reconciliation talks between Saudi Arabia and Israel. Given a hard-right Israel was always guaranteed to brutally overreact to such provocation, it already seems fait accompli. They also have the sort of munitions that destroyed the hospital… Notwithstanding that it’s still likelier to have been Israel that did it.
If it turns out not to have been caused by Israel then I apologise. But Israel does have form for carrying out atrocities & then immediately blaming their opponents. The murder of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh is one example. The missile attack that killed 4 children on the beach in 2014 was another.
A bad day to use the car park but the hospital appears wholly intact and (in shocking news) Hamas isn’t being wholly truthful with their version of events because they know that absolutely nobody in high speed modern news does their fucking job properly.
There’s so much disinformation out there you just can’t trust anything you see or hear about.
The only certainties are that Hamas are cunts, the Israeli forces/government are cunts, and they both need to stop killing innocent civilians. Oh and the final certainty: they’re not going to stop any time soon.
Must admit I posted that thinking that with the extraordinary level of security at border crossings - and Egypt not allowing munitions in at their border - that Hamas would not be able to procure so many munitions as portrayed.
