Jim's amp quest - the blind leading the blind

I thought Jim wanted to attenuate the treble and not mess with the xovers so DSP/DRC was being considered.

Not confusing them, don’t have a clue about using DSP or sound cards etc for crossovers and have zero intention of learning about them.

I meant it as a compliment really. High performance stuff always takes some fettling. You had a great buy with those.

Their inductors are wonderfully gut wrenching

Yeah agreed, but they’re also pretty wallet wrenching… :grimacing::joy:

Brace, Brace, Brace… Caps are essential too.

I think it’s out of whack enough just slapping on some eq isn’t going to work well.

Changing a few resistors in the crossovers is the solution. And always was.

I wasn’t suggesting you use DSP!
Well, not yet…
To much invested in passives etc.
Get your money’s worth first👍

I was refering to the designer using DSP / multi amp…

Mind you… - do get a miniDSP Flex 8 so the rest of us can know more about it’s sound quality :slightly_smiling_face:

Sounds like he swapped this for a Trinnov…

From yesterdays fiddling.

Before (red) and after (green), at listening position.

Subjectively translated as bass you could now feel as well as hear, cleaner and tonally more-believable mids, and much more stable and three-dimensional imaging.

Big improvement :ok_hand:

Yes, after further listening over the last couple of hours, I fully agree :+1:
The bass is much improved - before yesterday’s mods, the volume of the bass couldn’t be increased so as to be felt, not without being accompanied by some serious boom.
But the improvement at the top is even more noticeable - ever since the day Kevin installed them, the treble has always been too forward. Yesterday’s mods to the L- pads has completely changed that.
Overall the sonic picture is much more even handed, from top to bottom. Yay! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Has a veil been lifted?

Didn’t really need to be. The Gotos, regardless of the minor tweaking that’s been done at the top and bottom, have always had superb resolution, scale, presence and dynamics.
