I KNEW it’d be nothing but grief !
Anybody able to take a look at my heap of shit valve amp ?
Unplugged the bastard thing, took the valves out one at a time, gave the pins a squirt with Electrical Switch Cleaner and put them back in.
Gave the balance pot a quick blast too. Waited an hour and plugged the amp back in. Sounded like a hive of whizzing bees.
Feckin’ give up.

Was it sounding iffy before you cleaned it, Mike?

Maybe try plugging each valve in and out a dozen times and operate the balance pot repeatedly.

The balance pot had a very very slight rustle when you turned it. Nothing really

I’ve taken it out of the system Cosmo; I don’t want to risk the speakers.

Have you any ‘disposable’ speakers?
a buzzing hum or noise could be an earthing problem, does it still buzz with all sources disconnected?

Copland CTA-402
Nope
The feckin’ buzz wasn’t there before I “fixed it”.
Not an entirely wasted evening then

My PMA-850 Amp is also fit and forget. Should have just stuck with that

Was it scotch Brian who had a permanent fix for buzzing valve amps? Something about rotating them 90 degrees…

Agreed. Still quite annoying though.
