Knives and Sharpening

IF you go down that route, you would need to drill a hole at the very end of the crack, otherwise it might look fixed, but the crack will still migrate.

Also, Guy is right

On the plus side, at least you can sing “there’s a hole in my chopper” to the in-laws at Xmas.

That really is clever, and very attractive.

Form AND function FTW👍

A bird within a bird within a bird may at worst give a man the trots. A knife within a knife within a knife will afford multiple lacerations due to OCD alignment faff.

That filet knife makes me think of the Avant Garde series by the Austrian company Berndorf.
I was attracted by the knife design, but SWMBO vetoed.
But hey, she approves my audio and single malt stuff, so all is well

Been hankering after a light weight 6" Chefs knife and could have stuck with Global, however went for a Shun Classic, hopefully delivered tomorrow.

I have some good quality Henckels knives that have been gathering dust in the cutlery drawer for ages.

A five star 7” Santoku (30047-180)

A five star 8” serrated bread knife (30046-200)

A four star 6” utility knife (31070-160)

They are all in decent nick, some slight scratching / scuffing etc but handles and tang fully intact and perfectly safe and useable.
I have given them all a quick sharpen with my natty little Japanese whetstone sharpener but I’m sure they can be made much sharper with the right gear.

If anyone wants any of them then I can stick them on the forum funding toot bazaar page with a decent contribution to the forum required.

I would like to take the santoku and the utility please, Paul.

If you can send them by RM it will cost no more than mainland. I’ll make a suitable donation to the forum.

I’m afraid that 8" is a bit short to satisfy my needs.

Ooh err :flushed:

All bread knives seem to the same size, sort of like an industry standard.

Yep, all manufactured to BS8000

(Bread Size 8") :grinning:

Or BS2032 if it is a metric knife

Yes, I’ve just measured mine and it is 8" for some reason I thought it was 10" but I guess we all fall into that trap!

Ok, I’ll take them all. PM incoming :grinning:

If what you are after is a 10" bread knife then the Victorinox pastry knives are that length. They’re basically a bread knife with a rounded end on them (which I personally prefer).

Obviously I know that may not be in the best interests of forum funding!

Not really, Jon. I thought my bread knife was 10" - until I got the tape measure out. 8" is actually fine for me.
