Let me ignore your advice

I’d suggest a gato amp 150 would be exactly what you’re after. Absolutely clean and solid, huge grip and a really transparent but clean smooth sound with proper balls.

I thought the amp150 was one of the best I’d heard and I stupidly bought a Hegel instead which was as dull as dishwater!

It’s the Evo2 - I don’t think it lacks power, but the tonal balance with the Peaks isn’t what I’m looking for. The Moon is tonally better, but that definitely lacks for oomph I think.

Nice. Who has the forum bike at the moment?

I’m still using a Pre1, cos hifi apathy. It’s ok but could be a tad more exciting.

Tonally I certainly prefer the pre in the Eversolo to the Pre2P.

I should add, I don’t think the BC stuff is bad at all, it’s just not what I’m looking for all round. The lower bass coming through in particular with them is phenomenal.

It’s ok. I’ve had it a long time with little urge to change. Speakers would probably sort it for me.

What about a Karan 180 for a warmer sound?

Not heard any Karan gear, but I’ve heard good things about them in general.

Did just spot this, have quite enjoyed the Electrocompaniet stuff I’ve heard previously, and it doesn’t lack for grunt on paper: https://www.eliteaudiouk.com/product-page/un-new-amplifiers-electrocompaniet-eci6dx-mkii-int-amp-dac-streamer-rrp-5775

Second vote for a Gato DIA250 or a 400 if you can find one for the money. Stupidly good amplifiers.

Maybe ask @Mrs_Maureen_OPinion about EC stuff as i have never heard any

I have a Sony TA-N 5550 somewhere, it hasn’t been fired up for yonks (Pete sorted the suicide diodes) but if you fancy trying it I can probably arrange to get it to you, if you fancy trying it?

I know nothing at all about these amps, or even what VFET amps are, let me do a spot of reading!

If that’s the DIA-400 you are talking about, I am still riding that bike.

I’ve only heard a Gato once, with a pair of 40th Anniversary Triangle Antals, it felt clean to the point of sterile and lifeless to me.

I suspect sonically a valve integrated would be ideal, but there’s quite a bit of risk due to cousins etc if the valves aren’t going to be completely covered by chassis I fear.

Valve hybrid?
No experience of them myself

There’s a Pathos Logos on Emporium that’s tempting for that, have heard it before and it was a lovely thing.

The Gato replaced a Modwright KWI200. The presentation is smoother and less “hi-fi” to my waxy holes. I like oomph and it has more of that too.

I should swap them out more often to compare but the Modwright is so blinking heavy.

I also still have my Onkyo P3000R/M5000R pre/power amps. Should probably sell those.

For reference I am using

Technics SL1200G & Hana ML
Allnic H-1202
Gato DIA-400 or Modwright KWI200
Revel F208

I don’t think Karan will do it for you much as I like the integrated. You sound like you want something with a less of a relaxed presentation, something with a bit more attack?

Karan is quite dark sounding - certainly the Mk1 version.
The Gato 250 is smooth and a touch safe - same applies to the Pathos Logos.
The Gato 150 is the exact opposite - very clean and fast but I found it very tiring and basically hated it.

Maybe an ATC integrated might be more what your looking for:

Or if a power amp is all your need maybe a Benchmark ABH2 - never heard one mind.

Or find another £3k and buy this.
