I really enjoyed the show. There was definitely a few rooms that had speakers you would expect to be causing all sorts of issues in such a confined space sounding really good. Plus as usual it’s great to catch up with so many familiar faces. It was especially good to see Micky out and about again too.
It was a good show to be fair.
Great to see so many people there.
Tone Scouts were excellent.
Were they augmenting the bass at all or was there enough for the room?
No subs or anything like that just the two tone Scouts. They sounded fab and there was no lack of bass for sure. I loved em. I’ll try to put pictures on.
I’ve heard them several times over the years & occasionally, in a larger room, they could sound a bit lightweight. Hence why Kevin often used them with a W bin.
That pair sounded pretty good at Lopwell but that isn’t the biggest room and there was alot of ‘absorbent material’ in the room with them ![]()
Kevin doesn’t rate the RW24 W bin subs he sold with the TS and AS, when he said it was likely they are the only pair of Tone Scout RW24s in the UK I asked if he wanted to buy them off me for the Living Voice museum and he told me to fuck off ![]()
I sold those Tone Scouts to Ady with the RW24 subs + passive xover, and gave him a BK XLS4000 sub and 3x new silver beyma CP21 tweeters I got from Kev.
In my old room which was 15ft x 11ft there was never any need to reinforce the bass and TBH I never got the bass really integrated with the BK sub, came close using the Lyngdorf roomperfect stuff but the overall sound just wasn’t there.
Think Ady got Kev to update the xovers to the same as @Kevin air scouts which have a much higher HF crossover (AS is around 10Khz compared to 7Khz on TS) and fit the silver Beymas. Weirdly I prefer the Beyma CP21f in the Tone Scout to the JBL 2405 in the Air Scout (I have 4x 2405s if anyone wants to buy them
)
Fuck I miss those speakers

Oi, I was only halfway through reading that! ![]()
had second thoughts about rehashing old stuff ![]()
I’d only got as far as R24w or something similar.
I had a good chat with Ady at the show.
He might well be interestedi n the JBL tweeters. ![]()
There was a lot of missing bass.
Depends on the music you are playing but if you want to play anything (electronica etc) you need some bass reinforcement.
I use stereo BK3000 10" subs set to come in at 80Hz and it makes a huge difference even at lower mid levels.
Out of interest what mid drivers are in the show pair and what are in yours Kev? S3, S5, S2?
S5 in mine and the same in the Tone Scouts I think
On another note it was good to see Alphason back.
Mike Knowles gave an interesting chat about cartridge ‘stabilisation’
Although prices for new Alphason arms were s bit eye-watering.
Most tonearms, with any pretentions towards seriousness seem to have eye-watering prices nowadays. I can imagine that a small volume item utilising exotic materials & production methods is expensive to get made now.

We took them off those stands when I was in the room and the bass improved.
No idea why Ady uses them like that at home. He has a concrete floor. I suggested he sits the speakers directly on the floor.
I bumped into Micky as well it was great to see him.
He seemed in good spirits.
I had a 15-minute chat with him on Saturday evening. It’s great to have him out and about again.
