....more armchair politics (Part 2)

The major reason that you acquire billions in the first place is because you have no morals.

Q: If power corrupts and you are already corrupt what do you do next?

A: Corrupt others (In this case countries)

Hull and East Yorkshire are about to have their mayoral elections and Reform’s candidate is ex boxer Luke Campbell. At the candidate’s debate he had no idea of what the role entailed or what powers he would have. He has no political experience whatsoever. He’s leading in the polls.

Just watched this:

The woman towards the end of the video; her views on Privatisation- she nailed it.

This is a Reformski Ltd candidate in Leamington expressing their¹ views on LGBTQ+.

I know it’s infantile to make fun of people’s names. I know it is.

I just can’t help it.

Here’s my libertarian, anti-welfare, anti-woke, “take our country back” candidate.

'Ow do ?

What the fuck is wrong with people?

Do people seriously believe that this coalition of slippery chancers and fascist adjacent cunts have actual solutions to the problems that face the country?

God help us come the general election.

The new mayor of Greater Lincolnshire ffs, I despair:

That’s a long way off in fairness. It means that local elections like this frequently result in bilge getting elected as a ‘no harm’ protest. I’m not saying ‘don’t worry’ but I am suggesting that Runcorn doesn’t need to be nuked from orbit just yet.*

*any more than it did yesterday, anyway.

Makes me worried with the devolution of Sussex next year and getting a Mayor. I think our last local PCC election had a 10% turnout so I guess the mayoral election will be similar. Sadly the 10% who turn out around here tend to have more extreme views on things that have no base in reality outside the daily mail etc.

The UK seems stuck in some cosplay mirror of the US and has been for over a decade. Same messaging (‘It’s the immigrants’ - Lets get back to the good old days) same backers, same ‘Personality politics’. Same erosion of truth, same social media manipulations. The same fanning of division (Inc Brexit) / racism & fascism.
Hearts, minds, the economy, our culture and morals are being buggered & burgled by billionaires who are not about service, they are about power & pillaging.

They feel their standard of living is in decline. The Tories had 14 years during which things got steadily worse. Labour have had 9 months and have shown no signs of making anything better (at least, none that the hard-of-thinking are capable of recognising). So both the big parties need the severest cock-punching. Voting Reform is their way of doing that. Reform are useless except as a tool to make the big parties get their bloody fingers out*.

*It won’t work. We’re in trouble because we’re a small country without any enormously valuable natural resources. We became great through empire and trade (some of the latter being of the very worst kind). We have had nearly a century of post-imperial decline following one huge war and including another. We expect a high standard of living. Our productivity and economic growth are poor. Our demographic includes an increasing number of old people (unproductive, demanding when it comes to health and social care). Post austerity and covid we have a generation of younger people with health problems of their own (a good deal of them mental). Much of the first world is facing the same issues. It’s not clear to me that any Mayor of Greater Lincolnshire would have been able to sort them out.

Yep, from here the only way is decline, regardless of the flavour of government. Too many intractables.

So… you’re saying nuking Runcorn is back on the table?

As some one said last night
They voted for Brexit and were promised change, nothing happened
They voted for Johnson and were promised change, nothing happened
They voted for Starmer and were promised change, nothing happened
They voted for Reform who have promised change

The West Of England mayor will thankfully not be Arron Banks, although he finished a fairly close second to Labour on a 30% turnout. Here in Bristol the left vote has split between Labour & Green while the right is divided between Cons & Deform.

Someone should have pointed out that there was change. These two choices made things objectively worse.
