....more armchair politics (Part 2)

Minimum wage = great work. Child poverty also. NHS, the jury is out. I don’t know what you mean by wages ?

The underlying problem is their lack of financial understanding or credibility. These things are indeed great, but with an ever increasing tax take, lack of inward or internal private investment, due to punitive tax rates and anti-business climate, these things are not being actually afforded, we are just borrowing more to cover them. Our stock market is failing and big business is investing elsewhere. Just take a look at the hospitality industry. Any thoughts on Grad unemployment (including the NHS), for instance ?

Every u-turn they make costs UK PLC dearly and it is still the little guy who suffers. So, while we have seen some manifesto wins, the country is certainly not getting better off.

As soon as I saw the news I had a peek at PFM and surprise surprise they’re in utter glee at Labour tearing themselves apart.

They’re all bleating on about Sultana Fruitcake being the best candidate.

NHS = 2000 more GPs waiting times are falling
Wage increases are trending higher than price increases, although I am not sure that anyone is feeling it.
Crime rates are down in every sector except phone theft
The FTSE 100 rose 21.5% in 2025, its strongest calendar year performance since 2009.
Net immigration is also down.

I just feel that they are crap at communicating any of this and if you asked Joe Public for one thing that has improved they wouldn’t be able to say one of them. They have lost the agenda, The UK press doesn’t help, and the party doesn’t help itself but it is not all negative

But also makes himself look a bit of a self serving pillock. Why ask when you know the answer will be no?

In the spirit of keep your friends close and your enemies closer, why not welcome Burnham and give him something difficult to achieve? Think Attlee and Bevan.

Reform: ‘The country is broken, so we’ve recruited the people responsible…’

Hmmm

She could shoot babies in Fareham town centre and still be elected round here.

I give you Dominic Raab, rampant Brexiteer, who when he became foreign sec was surprised to discover how much of the necessities of life actually enter the country from Europe via the short straits.

Or Matt Hancock and his protection of the old people’s homes during covid.

Or David Davis, charged with negotiating Brexit and coming a distant second to Michel Barnier.

Or Boris Johnson who was both the worst foreign sec in UK history and the worst prime minister too and who, again on Brexit, didn’t understand the difference between the single market and a customs union nor why either of them mattered.

Or Liz Truss who is Johnson’s only serious competition for worst prime minister ever. For my money Johnson edges it as Truss at least realised she was useless very quickly. I’ll throw in Kwasi Kwarteng with Truss as each of them points the finger at the other one for not understanding how the markets would react to their infantile economic proposals. Despite him having worked in those very markets.

Or Chris Grayling. Dear God. There isn’t space here …

These were just the ones I could remember in 2-3 minutes.

Oh, Jacob Rees-Mogg and everyone else in the ERG.

Aided and abetted by Helen ‘Ghoul’ Whately.

‘Honorable’ mention to Chris Grayling who amongst his many adventures in stupidity bungled the ferry contracts and then had to pay £33m to Eurotunnel in compensation.

Then there’s Gavin Williamson who bravely told a civil servant to slit their own throat in one of his many alleged attempts at bullying ministerial staff, when he’s not confusing one black man for another…

How could I have forgotten. His work as Education Secretary during covid was exemplary (if you’re looking for an example of ‘worse than useless’). Marina Hyde said of him

Gavin has gone so missing in the biggest game of his career that the coastguard has called off the search and it has now become a matter for the Hubble telescope.

A key member of the wallygarchy.

Thanks lads - I had successfully repressed my memory of him to only being able to remember the “Gavin” bit :frowning:

Can’t believe Priti Patel hasn’t defected yet. She’ll fit right in when she does.

Funny enough I watched this last night where she was asked the question

That’s Sir Gavin Williamson, recognition for all the exemplary work he did during covid.

Shirley even Labour can’t avoid pointing at Reform and chanting “Retread Tory” at them.

It’s the ego of these people that disturbs me. Their incompetence in government, their total inability to adequately perform their ministerial duties throughout the long years of Tory rule and their advocacy for Brexit has played a large part in diminishing this country’s economy, soft power and standing in the world.

And yet, they believe that they deserve another chance to wield power. Their sense of entitlement is off the charts.

We need to again send them the message that they clearly didn’t understand after the last general election: fuck right off you useless cunts.

I think hyper self belief and denialism are prerequisites for modern politicians.
