Don’t want to pay their taxes, but at same time want the tax-man to prop up their businesses and fund rebuilding of stadiums, whilst blaming immigrants for being a burden on the state - its an insult that they don’t think we can see right through this.

Day to day, people in occupations that are not valued in ‘society’ face a similar indifference from their ‘management’ so this leads to a general sense of apathy.
Keep calm and carry on getting fucked. Zero accountability in that sphere and of course then there’s a similar disregard shown by most- if not all- political parties.
Then there’s the effects of the global financial crisis*; austerity; brexit; covid and now the reach of the Epstien Files- Mandy, Andy etc.
All of which quite understandably fuel that apathy and of course anger which the mainstream media seem to be training the population to blame on small boats; assylum hotels etc.
*Some years ago, I had the ‘pleasure’ of attending a wedding at Goodwood House.
A bridesmaids speech included a line making light of the collapse of Lehmann Brothers. A joke. I found it as funny as a broken leg.
Yet the table- yes that fucking big long banqueting table- roared with laughter. With the exception of two people. The reason why I didn’t laugh was because I remembered contemporary accounts of people taking their lives as they’d lost everything.
