You have basically repeated a Lee Mack routine verbatim there.
If anyone mentions MC Hammer, all I can think of is that interview by Mark Lamarr
Misty In Roots, North London Poly 82 ish.
I remember getting there late and we had to go
towards the back of the hall it was so packed. Didn’t matter, when the band came on and started playing the entire place went nuts and it didn’t let up. It was the first time I experienced bass so deep and loud it vibrated your insides. They had a dude, dressed in a kaftan, dreds, the works, who’s sole job was to stand absolutely still at the side of the stage and smoke huge spliffs, which he did for a couple of hours while the rest of the band were really mobile. They had no lights or any frills at all really but they were just HEAVY. The entire experience felt so happy, I remember when it was over everyone trooped out of there drenched in sweat with massive grins on their faces. I wish that I’d seen them again to see if it was always like that. Sometimes when you go to shows the crowd are so expectant and connected that the band comes on and bang, everyone goes for it. Pretty much the most joyful gig I’ve ever been to.
seen them a few times, and yes they were good. Am seeing them in Brighton on 28th March
I had no idea they were still around!
this event What's On at Brighton Dome | Brighton Dome was rescheduled from last Oct, to March
Considering how much I love live albums, I’ve been to a woeful lack of decent gigs.
Best was John Martyn at the Lowry theatre.
Honourable mentions go to Matchcbox Twenty at the NEC (first ever gig) and Maceo Parker at the Exeter Uni Student Union.
Worst was Sting. Gig delayed due to illness the first time, and it was just way too quiet and he very much played to the record, which was a big contrast to his live albums.
Not seen it!
Rock City, NME introducing tour, Crystal Castles
Alice had her leg in a plastic brace boot thing, but that didn’t stop her caterwauling whilst swaying precariously on top of the monitors all night.
So much smoke/lights/strobes it was a good half hour before the mists parted & it became apparent they weren’t using machines but had a real drummer.
Unmissable.
Thanks.
thanks for that - reminding me of how shit Mark Lamarr was on TV. Oh and as bonus, that 2 seconds of Terry Christian is 2 seconds too many…
I didn’t get far into that before I had to turn it off either.
It’s proper cringey
Toe curling!
Runrig’s farewell concert at Stirling Castle last summer. Absolutely stunning concert, a brilliant venue and a wonderful atmosphere, even though we were all devastated that the boys were calling it a day.
Also Kylie Minogue at the Bournemouth International Centre last year. Because Kylie Minogue
These are my most memorable gigs of recent times, as requested by the OP. Please explain how they are “inflammatory, irrelevant or offensive”.
Mostly as you posted but also Runrig.
Ah, not a fan then - fair enough.
For a minute I was worried that the cadmium on the linkages of all those Garrard 301s that you ruin was affecting your brain.
Greatly relieved it isn’t so.
