Notes from a remote island

Isn’t that arm a bit lightweight for a Supex.

Rough calculation for the combo gives a resonant frequency of 8.9 ish. 7-12 is meant to be acceptable so it falls well within those limits.

Numbers aside (and I’m using a non SME - i.e. heavier - headshell) it sounds pretty good to me.

YMMV

Heavier, like you put a brick on it?

Glad you have got stuff connected up. Must be quite satisfying.

Not many headshells are as light as those crappy SMEs

Indeed, enjoying it immensely

Kinell, I’ve found a DAC!

What the fuck am I going to do with that?

Plug it in! It’s a good ā€˜un.

Lol, I can plug it in but what am I going to plug into it?

Whatever computer you have. Unless you just use a tablet for internet or something, I guess.

I have an old laptop that just sits on a windowsill and runs Tidal or Spotify, and straight into the DAC. It’s no good for anything else, but it performs that task perfectly.

I should really get a CD player - I’ve got ~2k CD’s and some of the stuff isn’t available on vinyl.

:bulb:

I’ve got a fanless PC that @AmDismal made for me years ago (I used it once for about an hour) think it has a 3Tb drive and a back up (that’s probably why I own a DAC) I could spend endless hours transferring them all to that…

Sorry, but I’ve no interest in that kind of sorcery :man_shrugging:

Does the PC have a cd/dvd drive in it? You could just play the CDs from it, rather than doing all that transferring. The DAC will guarantee the end sound is good.

Aye.

I should find it (along with all sorts of other things I’m uncovering) in the next day or two. Maybe I will even remember how it works*

*unlikely, but I can hope!

A stroke of luck, with correct application you may just be able to keep the Pagans at bay.

The Pagans are fine, it’s the Christians I want to ward off

It’s not a bad idea tbh - Qobuz is only Ā£15/m for hi-res streaming. It’s worth it not to rip in your discs!

The simple ability to play any new release before vinyl purchase is also of real value.

Or, like he said, just get a dirt-cheap CDP and save himself a LOT of pointless fucking-about…

No sense doubling up decoding hardware.

Is still the answer, of course.

Get a good second hand CD player Paul that’s the easiest solution. There are plenty about.
