Begrudgingly True.

Aside from the fact transports seem to fetch more than CDPs.

Were it me I’d get something like a Sony BDP-S1700 - it’s dinky, will play any disc format you can think of, and has a nice rock-solid coaxial digital output, all for Ā£90 brand new.

You are CJROSS AICMFP

I doubt the gas-powered internet here would support such things

Oooooh! You spiteful bitch! :sob:

I’m currently streaming the new Yello album in hi-res and it takes about 1.7Mb/s. Should be doable surely?

I bought a JVC XL-E66 when my very expensive CD player went kaput and it’s been superb and tbh sounds just as good as my defunct one.

Sell the DAC and buy more vinyl and CD’s and enjoy.

i completely forgot i bought that on CD… i dont think i even opened the box!

Wise move…

Well, look what’s turned up, I forgot that Lou had a CDP in her little system.

Only Toslink digital out but I can get one of those. CDs might still be a thing.

Possibly!

Perfect. That Jolida will sound nice in your system I reckon. I remember a warm analogue sound from it when i reviewed it.

Ok, deep breath and here goes!

Obviously I need to connect the CDP to the DAC, so I googled ā€˜optical cables’ and of course there are examples from as little as <Ā£2.50 - £££

Without wanting to get into a circular cable debate (really!) other than appearance, robustness and/or quality of manufacture, reliability etc. I presume (with a fairly high degree of confidence) that there is no way they can differ in actual performance?

I’m not trolling, it’s a genuine question, I’ve never used an optical cable, only coax for this purpose.

They either work or they don’t. I suppose the longer they are the more important the quality of the optical fibre becomes, but decent quality fibre is impossibly cheap anyway. I just picked something up from Curry’s for a tenner each when I finally got a DAC, but they don’t work any better than the frighteningly thin freebie ones that came with my SACD and Minidisc decks, they’re just longer and more robust.

No diffs.

I don’t doubt that there are > 10 people on here who have > 2 spares in a drawer or cupboard.
