Went there in 2007 or there abouts. Was the cafe by the harbour still run by as grumpy a woman?
Same here, might have to open Fetlar’s version of Spiritland
The Casino?
Shhh!
I’m not sure that Fetlar has the infrastructure to handle an extra 14 jobs being created
They’ve been trying (unsuccessfully) to find backers for that project for years. My own opinion is that it will never happen.
IF (and it’s a huge if) it ever came to fruition I think that could be coped with. There are 3 empty council houses and a couple of private properties available. It’s also only half a mile or so from the ferry terminal which could attract workers from Yell or Unst.
The rabbit population continues to recover here after they were almost wiped out five years ago. I’ve had a pair of them in the garden for a few weeks now and in the last couple of days five of these have appeared.
and from a not-quite-so-remote group of islands
That sort of bollox raises its head from time to time here too.
It’ll never happen.
I did wonder when I read Funzie was twinned with Phnom Penh
Time to resurrect this.
In Fetlar there was a great tradition in using horses and ponies to flit (transport) peats mainly from Lamb Hoga to the crofts on the west side of the island. Those living on the east side would take their peats down to the end of the peninsula then transport them, mainly to Aith by open boat.
In later years some people also cut peats on the island of Hascosay which lies between Fetlar and Yell. Again these were transported back to Fetlar by boat.
This boat
Obviously it has seen better days, as has the winch
Remarkably, it is still tied to the winch with a hefty line.
A squirt of WD40 and I am sure it will be fine!
And a bit of gaffer tape for the boat
Approaching Fetlar!
Oh joy
I guess the Swallows will benefit, even if nobody else does.
This disappointing 2nd LP by Pork’n’schlong.
