I saw them July 95 at Slane Castle supporting REM and got to the front as almost nobody had heard of them, then again in Oct 95 at the Empress Ballroom in Blackpool just before they went massive. Really enjoyed both shows, particularly Blackpool which was a great night, but had no desire to see them after that even back in the day, and dont really want to stand in a wet park in Manc in July next year either.
However FOL #3 and his mates are absolutely buzzing at the idea of seeing them next year
We went to Slane a few years ago.
I wasn’t paying attention but eventually cottoned on with oh shiiit, Springsteen, U2
Fantastic natural amphitheatre.
A friend who’s a sometime session musician & recording engineer told me about an encounter with Liam at a recording studio in London. Said friend was telling a colleague about a particularly desirable 2nd hand guitar he’d seen but couldn’t afford in a S London music shop while Liam was in the same room. The next day Liam appeared back at the studio with that very guitar and waved it in front of him laughing. Nothing more to add.
Nothing else needed. Up himself tosser.
It’s a pension whip round. Cocaine is an expensive mistress (So is a fashion line that went into administration)
So is a £20m divorce settlement, plus a £8m house on top.
Why so precious about it all ? Good luck to them. If they can still command such massive audiences, many of them seemingly the younger generations, they are obviously doing something right.
I’m sure they’re not too concerned about the opinions of a bunch of neolithic musos.
I’m fairly agnostic about it, tbh. I was never a fan back in the day and thought they were a pair of insufferable gobshites, but I didn’t mind some of the songs.
In all honesty, if one of my mates who are trying for tickets for Manchester (and there’s plenty) offered me a cheapie, I’d probably go just for the craic. The atmosphere would be immense. No way would I pay £150 though, even if there weren’t any Reform voters.
Yep, I really enjoyed the first two Albums (still do), simply for their great fun, dance / sing along R ‘n’ R music and attitude.
Shallow maybe, but sometimes that is all music is about.
Anyway, in other Manc news, Morrissey agreed to a megabucks Smiths reunion, and Johnny fucked him off. So, because it comes naturally to him, Mozzer had to have a bitch about it…
Lol !
Marr & band seemed happy enough playing Smiths songs on Saturday. Didn’t need Farage’s input!
If i could get readily available tickets and pay face value for a show in Oxford, I’d quite enjoy standing at the back with a pint moaning about how shit it sounds and that Liam can’t sing.
I used to like Oasis during their early years, and still appreciate their first couple of albums. But generally speaking I cba with it anymore.
Credit to Noel for coming across very well in this, super interview and discussion.
One or two good songs but nothing I’m bothered about seeing.
I’m sure tickets will be far too expensive to even consider going anyway.
Definitely Maybe is an excellent, dirty rock n roll record. Meh after that.
I made the elder brother some clothes once he was a megastar. I liked him, relaxed and down to earth.
I kind of saw them a few months before Definitely Maybe was released at the Old trout in Windsor. The ‘kind of’ was down to a complete liability of a friend RIP who refused to put his spliff out when told to do so by the fairly reasonable bouncer. We got kicked out two or three tracks in. Same friend fell through my neighbors roof to offer a glimpse at his caliber of nause. When I think of these things I smile and miss him. I don’t remember much of the gig but do remember Liam’s attitude which was magnetic and repulsive it seemed to me.
