What a life and career RIP

Over a year ago, but I missed the news. A much-travelled troubadour, and a decent bloke. RIP Bill.

Still love The Whistle of the Jay - bought the LP from him at a gig in '79. Many have recorded this, and parodied it, but it still gets to me.

On review - yes. And I missed it.
I plead personal circumstances - moving house, being made redundant one week after moving into the new house, poor job market, Mrs M being unwell

Yup. All at once.

Always enjoyed his news and reporting presentations, he seemed to be one of the good guys, very humane in his presentations. A loss to journalism, not many genuine ones left now.

Yes, one of the good guys. Caught the One O’clock news, nice tribute at the start and a tough gig for Clive Myrie who was clearly holding back his emotions.

It was only the other day that I thought of him when Argyle bought their first ÂŁ1m player.
Trevor never played for us but he is still talked about on the Argyle forum I go on by those of his generation.
Football was banned at the school he went to so they would play with tennis balls in the playground.
Argyle tried to sign him but his dad was having none of it.

I only saw him play once at Watford v Sheff wed.He was coming to the end of his career, but was staggered by his work rate up and down the pitch, sadly watching football on telly doesn’t capture the quality of movement off the ball.

I saw him playing for B’ham aged 17 alongside Bob Latchford, Gordon Taylor etc. He was sensational then (2nd Division at that time) and only got better.

Winning the European Cup. Used to love watching John Robertson playing too because despite looking overweight & slow he couldn’t ever be stopped getting a good cross in.

I remember watching that with a mate, on holiday in Torquay and the goal was just about the only memorable thing about what was a pretty dull match (and quite a dull holiday destination too)

“Well, may I ask what you expected to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically?”

I was hoping* to see herds of women sweeping across the dance floors of the nightclubs.

*I didn’t

Raymond Froggatt has passed aged 81

Not Froggy.

He played at our village festival in Jackfield a number of times in the 80’s. His caravan parked up and he went to sleep. Always a panic if he would wake up in time - he never did.

Red Balloon was the song I remembered best.

Even then the joke “what has 50 legs and 3 teeth - the front row of a Froggy concert” was close to the truth.

It is sad to hear about the death of the footballer/Manager Trevor Francis.

He was a great footballer. He was very skilful. I saw him play on the telly back in the 70s. He was the first million pound player in the UK, when he signed for Nottingham Forrest.

He had a great career, playing in English, Italian & Scottish top leagues, winning a number of honours. He also gained 52 caps for England.

I saw him more often when signed for the Wednesday, at the end of his playing days. It was at a time when I saw Wednesday play some of the best football I have ever seen at Hillsborough. His skills helped Wednesday to get promotion & get to the final to win the League cup.

He later became player/manager then manager, again during a time of great football. He nearly won the league & 2 cups. He brought some legends to the club (e.g. Des Walker, Chris Waddle, etc).

It didn’t end well for him at Sheffield Wednesday, but I remember & enjoyed many great times as part of the Tricky Trevor’s Barmy Army!

R.I.P. Trevor Francis
