Did it hit?

not even close, his office was huge and it barely made it half way to me.

Lol, he nearly went up in my estimation

Not known to me personally, but sad news for Sugden fans:

" Patrick Miller 1965-2023.jpg

"We are devastated to announce the sad passing of Patrick Miller, Managing Director of Sugden Audio on Friday 1st September 2023 following a short illness.

Patrick started working at Sugdens 41 years ago under the guidance of his father Tony. He worked in all areas of the business from assembly and packing through to sales and subsequently to leading our small but dedicated team.

Sugden Audio will continue under the Miller family together with the long term Sugden team."

That’s very sad. I knew him fairly well & would always have a nice chat with him at shows etc if we met. 5 years younger than me. :open_mouth:

Geoff Davies, founder of Probe Records & the Probe Plus label (early home to Half Man Half Biscuit) has passed, preceded by his wife Annie, only a few days prior to him.

Loved Probe when it was in the location in the above photo, Button St in Liverpool (near Mathew St). It could be intimidating when Pete Burns sneered at your record selection, and sometimes flat out refused to sell you it. Annie was there to keep the lid on his more excessive outpourings of scorn and would sell you the stuff Pete wouldn’t deign to. Geoff was always there in the background, seemingly busy busy but never actually doing anything constructive as far as I could tell. Apart from creating a great shop and label and curating a fantastic music scene.

Just seen the news on FB. Really sad as it is the end of an era. Thanks for posting that @Rob998

Oh god she was absolutely gorgeous, especially in her middle years

This , a couple of pals had a stint there many years ago and I bought a fair few teenage records there.
Those steps …

I knew Patrick quite well, had long conversations about loudspeakers, especially the full range Jordan Watts model they produced. I bought his personal 21a 12 watt amp off him and still have it providing good service. I didn’t realise he was MD, he was just a nice enthusiastic chap. Really very sad at his passing, who do I ring for advice now. RIP Patrick.

It is indeed sad news to hear from his Mrs of his passing within hours of it as I have known them both since my first foray into hi-fi almost 40 years ago. He will be sorely missed but Sugden will continue with the existing team and it’s UK representation just as Patrick and Tony would have wanted.

Just a nice down to earth chap.

Benterprise House. Don’t know how true this is but I was told Burns did that. Might go and reinstate it next time I’m round there.
