She was an odious bitch but Iâd prefer sheâd had a painful/degrading natural death rather than being murdered.

Obviously one wouldnât wish a violent murderous death on anyone let alone a defenceless 78 year old woman.
That said, I find the canonisation of Widdecombe since her death to be somewhat troubling.
I donât care that she was willing to go on tv and debase herself for money in a misguided attempt to rehabilitate her public image. I donât care if her friends thought she was a nice person.
I care that over the last thirty years, she played a not insignificant role in peddling and enacting some of the most divisive politics and policies that have changed our country and not for the better.

This. The whole notion of âdonât speak ill of the deadâ really fucking bugs me.
This isnât a Godwinâs point, but if you take someone like Hitler or Stalin, no one (of sound mind) is trying to canonise what they were like. So we can get our heads around the fact that this doesnât have to be the case, but we still apply the dividing line way too high up the scale, imho.

Anytime someone trots out the lines âyou shouldnât speak ill of the deadâ or âif you canât say something nice donât say anything at allâ etc, especially when the deceased in question is a completely toxic bigot, then I just dismiss them as imbeciles.
I can think and say what I like without being told that I shouldnât, and death however the circumstances does not alter the deeds and actions of the person when they were alive.

She didnât have a single redeeming feature. I can tolerate right wing politicians if they believe in what they are saying and are willing to debate their arguments but she was arrogant and dismissive,
Her politics was that of hatred, persecution and victimization, in short she was an odious cunt who never once did a decent thing.
She switched to catholic because they called homosexuality, abortion and same sex marriage a sin and she thought the CofE/Anglicans were getting too soft FFS

Donât think he ever got the credit he deserved as an actor after Jurassic Park, could do horror really well and was great in comedies

Damn shame 
- even thoâ it was tangibly nonsense, the first JP was a lot of fun and he pretty much carried it. We provided some consultation (which SFAICT was completely ignored) at the NHM, so the entire museum got a private screening in Leicester Square before general release - it was a pretty cool moment, just hard to take-onboard that it was 33 years ago!!!
