Loved “Up On The Roof” from as far back as I can remember. RIP Kenny.
Liked him, didn’t appear to take himself seriously and had a terrific sense of humour. I think he was well liked by his fellow entertainers, a sad loss especially at this time of year. RIP
edit : I’ve just read his obituary, he was some chap. I didn’t realise the esteem he was held in by fellow pro’s.
All round nice guy - RIP. I did not know he was on band on the run album cover or a WHU supporter
Interview here with Jools Holland, great little story about writing Sha La La La Lee … at 8.30. Heard this clip on the radio
Yep
Along with Michael Parkinson, James Coburn, Christopher Lee, John Conteh, and Clement Freud.
Yeah, I always knew who the others were but not him.
Just found out that a friend from my youth passed away at the beginning of December.
He was an absolute legend in Bradford.
RIP Andy you will always be remembered as a fantastic person.
His first band
Another childhood hero gone, far too soon. RIP Billy Hughes
Just saw it announced that Martin Peters has died
He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2013
RIP Martin.
My Dad was friends with him and Martin Chivers. They went for post match drinks (a tradition that started years before with Danny Blanchflower) in the White Hart pub, and as a kid my Dad took me along. Met him a few times and I have fond memories.
9 hours later, and without the aid of Google, I still have no idea who he is. But that’s probably more to do with finishing off the numerous semi - empty bottles of wine and telling everyone to feck off while I shout ‘this is why we have amazon prime, you ungrateful fuckers’
Alasdair Gray
Done my head in when I first read it
A great artist as well - his mural in Oran Mor in Glasgow is beautiful
Another great artist gone
Awww fuck!!
I love the story of the fractious meet at 4AD HQ over the M/A/R/S/S record. After a load of aggro, Oliver simple got up and left. A short while later those attending the meeting were subjected to the sight of Oliver’s naked body sliding down the glass roof, accompanied by cartoon sliding noise. There may have been a lot of jazz salt ingested…
Brilliant and visionary artist, his work with Cocteau Twins and This Mortal Coil in particular are unparalleled. Interesting character whose excesses led to a life well lived.
Vale.
Yes his work was as much a part of the 4AD experience as the music - sad.
