I was never lucky enough to meet him although we spoke on the phone and exchanged a few emails when he bought a Vida. Seemed a lovely chap. A sad loss.

Oh no, such a lovely guy to spend some time with and natter about TTs and records.

Also, the family of Nashville legend John Prine said he was critically ill on a ventilator and being treated for Covid-19 symptoms.

Said to hear. There aren’t many people I know, who know who he is.
I really like him. Let’s hope he pulls through.

Got a few John Prine albums, a huge name on the Country scene

He was labeled as the new Dylan at one point. He managed to shake that off though and plough his own furrow.

He was bigger than Jesus in Ireland when I was small. Hugely popular with the culchies.

OK, fair enough. Ireland in the early 1970s was a bit Jesus-centric. Poor phrasing. He was massively popular though.

Late to the show again… Only just heard about Bob Andy. Died on Friday :pensive:

And a bit explosive!

To be honest there was very little of that in Ireland

Northern Ireland (a different country) was unfortunately a different matter

There was one nasty campaign in Dublin in 1974. My colleague was knocked over by the Nassau Street bomb but saved by the massive wall of Trinity College.

That was the kind of comment that led to mass punch-ups in the pub when I first went to London to work during the summers and trail around after bands. I soon worked out not to go drinking in Neasden…. Cricklewood (particularly the Crown) was strictly verboten. It is ever so nice in Cricklewood these days.

Did you ever go to the Claddagh Ring in Hendon?

I don’t know if I’ve ever been to Hendon. I pretty quickly gave up on Oirish Pubs as (i) the Guinness came from Woolwich most of the time and was awful and (ii) I spent most of my money following the likes of New Order, The Smiths and The Sisters of Mercy around. By 1985 I could usually get into New Order and Smiths gigs for free and (iii) I liked bitter so a down at heels Saloon Bar (with apologies to Robert Rankin) was my boozer of choice.
