Cookie stuck to the oven
It has been reported the driver ignored warning signs due to following a satnav.
We get massive juggernauts getting stuck in single track lanes around here all the time. Coming from opposite directions, two had a stand off in the bend in a main street. Neither could pass, neither would reverse.
We found it quite amusing, as the longer they refused to move, and the more disruption they caused, the more phone calls were made to Highways and Police. They both realised this and started to panic, which led to them nearly beating the crap out of each other.
Due to size limits along this road, both were given enormous fines.
I remember a mate of mine being in Poland with a huge Scania unit and a 40ft trailer in the 80s, before Sat Nav and because of the cold war maps were shit and often didn’t show railway lines.
He told me that for some of the remote areas he would park up and walk in 3 miles to check there were no low bridges and he wasn’t going to get stuck and had a place to turn round…
I said that was a lot of effort and he said ‘Not as much effort as reversing an artic 2 miles on a narrow road’
In 1982 he said that a whole village would turn out just to gawp at the lorry!

Truckies generally only use standard Satnavs not Yorkie bar ones
Foreign artics are regularly turned away at the Rotherhithe tunnel as they are following car routes set on shortest distance.

The HGV drivers i know use sat nav designed for those vehicles.
I know older trucks probably don’t have Satnavs but do the newer ones have them fitted as standard? And if they don’t then they fecking well should be. This can’t just be a UK issue
Yeah, the more I hear about that one the worse that story gets. A 44tonne lorry on a bridge with a specified 19tonne rating. The company operating the lorry are based a few hundred yards from the bridge and have regularly been reported for breaking the weight limits.
