Iāll bow to your greater wisdom.
The limit of mine is that it said Turbo on the back.
Thing was I drove a Nissan GTR afterwards and was able to utilise much more of the performance.
Now that was a supercar.
Did one of those kinda track days āchange upā ābrakeā ābrakeā
ā4th!ā on a corner crying out for 3rd.
Youāre right Pork does like the high revs.
Would guess the red line was about 8-9K?
Your guess is as good as miine, the day was a bit of a blur.
(Particularly and literally when driving the GTR).
GTRs are dull to drive (I drove my cousinās at Castle Combe) but horrendously quick.
Recently drove a 911 at the Porsche Centre at Silverstone. Brand new , 450 bhp and all the gizmos. Basically it was totally awesome. I used to have a Caterham which I thought was quite nippy. The 911 was like a rocket ship in comparison. The brakes, launch control, gearbox were faultless you just concentrate on driving the thing. A great day out, you get breakfast and lunch as well, highly recommended. Just need a lottery win now.
A mirror imager of my experience.
Clearly there is a lot of technology between the driver and car, blunting its character but the flip side to that is it allowed me to drive way beyond my abilities and have a fucking great time.
Iām sure the 993 Turbo would be a better, more involving vehicleā¦if I was the bastard love child of Senna and the Stig.
In hindsight a naturally aspirated 911 would have been better, more responsive and open to use.
If it was my money though Iād have the
Ariel Atom.

Difficult to fit the golf bats in though.
I loved my half day there. Learnt a lot. On arrival I was expecting a health and safety briefing. Barry Horne the ex touring car racer who was taking me out, said just jump in, Iāll know after half a lap if you are a lunatic or not. Brilliant. After half a lap he said you are braking too early, leave it much later. Again, brilliant.
I subsequently, on another day, drove a Lambhorgini round a track and the instructor sat next to me couldnāt believe how late I was braking :). Barry taught me well.
TIL that a man in Texas called Troutman Barnes built the ultimate Turan Taxi in 1967;
Wasnāt planning on changing my XF till next year at least but have seen a really nice 2014 Cayman 2.7 PDK auto up for sale nearby and my post mid life crisis has kicked in. So are Caymans any good and is auto a poor choice for resale value? I would rather not go back to a manual car if at all possible.
iād query the 2.7l iāve always had the S version. YMMV - have you driven it?
PDK is a great gearbox, can change gear quicker than you, iāve had them on all my pork and wouldnt have anything other.
Yep, buy the Cayman to thrill yourself (and others) but keep the Jag for journeys.
IME 2.7 wont thrill as much as 3.4. IME with the 2 Boxsters i had - they were both fine on longer journeyās. Although the 981 with the bigger wheels had firmer suspension. IMO the 981 S incarnation was the best version they produced.
No not driven it and only had a brief look and a sit inside. Was not prepared for how spacious it felt. I have always had 4 seaters and had little interest in a feeling enclosed in a 2 seater.
we always had Boxsters and found the load capacity for suitcases etc to be quite limited.
This is a thing to me. Iām not sure I could adjust to the limitations when going away. Ok for a weekend but a week or two Iām not sure.
