Pots and pans

Unfortunately the UK dealer doesn’t stock or supply this particular Solidteknics Aus-Ion 31” er
So am looking at going straight to Oz for it…

You can get them from the US. That’s where I got the 10”. It’s the “quenched” finish version. Not sure how the XHD differs, though.

Thanks Pete…shall do the math as I was offered a nice discount price from the Ozzy crowd

Just had a look and Amazon add VAT etc. So looks like £125 landed.

I see that the UK retailer has the shot peened Satin finish Aus-Ion 26cm back in stock…No mention of re stocking the 30cm shot peened which OZ mother ship states back in stock

Still cheaper to buy on Amazon US! (Well, sort of, it’s the ‘quenchd’ version) works out at £95 landed.

Edit: oh, looks like it’s OOS. :frowning:

So it seems the US franchise have developed their own oil quenching process for Raw iron pans
Whilst the parent company in Oz have developed a shot peened finish tech which is supposed to season quicker…Its a mystery…either way stonkingly good wrought iron pans with notably less weight of trad cast

‘Tis a bit weird. Though the Aus site does talk about the quenched stuff on their front page and are selling Aus-ion quenched pans.

I shall send them an email to clarify…Looking likely that having talked about the process on their intro page not mentioning it any further in any of the actual individual product pages may be merely an omission of the obvious ( to them that is)… Viz

Oops you’re right, not selling them on the Aus site, I was getting confused with the US made ones on Amazon.com. Maybe they’re just on their Kickstarter at the moment.

Confusing, lol.

But you are right about the Oz parent site talking about their then new patented quench process ( not like quenching hot metal in oil is anything new to the world) but they do refer on to the original kickstarter products …perhaps the US crowd are manufacturing to the original process whilst Oz are no longer…anyhoo shall fire off an email just for the hell of it

Mystery solved…the answer in a Q&A post on the US 7.5 “ Amazon listing…

Question:

I’m confused what’s the difference between this pan and the aus ion 7” skillet smooth finish and the aus ion satin finish?

Answer:

Thank you for your interest. Our USA-made US-ION skillets are now all “quenched” seasoned, which means they are ready for cooking out of the box (or for a quick stovetop seasoning to enhance the cooking surface). Our Australian-made ION skillets come in two finishes: ‘RAW’ (with no pre-seasoning or surface blasting) and ‘SATIN’ (shot-peened and lightly pre-seasoned, with further seasoning recommended before use). The “quenched” seasoning available in the USA is the most robust seasoning.

There are some minor dimensional differences between our American- and Australian-produced skillets, and the origin of the materials used is different as we source our iron locally. All skillets have the same high level of performance. see less

OK, so basically, pans are the same with different finish, but if you want the quenched finish, you need to order from USA?

They don’t make it easy!

I’m happy with the quenched one I got from the US.

Yeah, you say that now.
But there will forever be a little doubt in the back of your mind :smirk:

Didn’t know whether to post this here or in the cunty shoe thread. Decided here, just to annoy Pete - yay!

Tea cups, but nice I thought.

:+1: The quenched finish is nice - sort of satin anyway just that they’ve done an initial oil coat.
