Proud dad (/mum/grandad/uncle/whatever) moments

And don’t forget ‘U’ for unclassified. Though that may be for the CSEs. Either way, I got one for French

Congrats to her, I know she had loads of interruptions this year, so they’re fantastic results.

Well done to all the GCSE kids. Some great results in a very difficult year.
A -9,8,7 here, I’m very proud especially the 9 which was Eng-lit and the only exam paper only subject. Not bad as she was 14 when she did the exam. 7 more this year coming.

Im not a fan of the grading system.
Especially at yr 10/11 age level.

Given that kids are required to do a levels or an apprenticeship (or btecs?) just now, other than acceptance to that next stage, gcse grades really don’t help - and for all bar a-levels they’re not good practice for more vocational further education anyway.

I was lucky, I could remember stuff and write fast which both help in exams, but they remain a very divisive way of assessing people

Me too. My luck extended to having a feel for numbers as well. Back in the day you were off to a flying start in exams with that combination.

Niece #1 (18 this week) has gone out and found herself a part time job waitressing.

3 hour trial shift last night, she was asked half way through to stay an extra hour and come back tonight for a full shift (until 2.30am, in Brixton).

One could be pretty concerned, but looking at it dispassionately she’s a 6’ tall girl from the hood and will probably be safer than I would be.

Mixed pride here… yes it’s impressive but it’s perilously close to prog at 14 mins…

FoL selected for the High Ability group in her year today. She has always been hard-working and conscientious but it is good that the school have recognised her and her yearnin’ fo learnin’. She’s seemingly not at all bothered by the potential for extra work.

Had to drive the boy to Swindon early today for a climbing comp, just got back. We had an optimistic target of getting into the semis, but he aced that and made the final. With a bit more competition nous he could have got a top 3 place as well. Excellent stuff!

Niece #2 has recently graduated from “skinny gremlin” to “really unsubtle sexbomb” and basically has an entire class of boys following her around trying to pick their tongues off the floor.

One such unfortunate made the mistake of messaging her on Insta (where she posts her art, not herself).

“What did he say?”

“He asked if anyone had ever told me that I was beautiful.”

“What did you say?”

“I said yes, they have.”

That’ll be a couple of years before he musters the courage to try to chat up anyone else then.

Sorry, I found it funny anyway.

Me too. But you do have to feel for the poor snubbed sod. Schooldays, at least the teenage ones - the worst of your life …

Nieces still shattering male egos across SE London - niece #1 (18, 6’ classical beauty) this time.

Gumby would-be suitor: “You’re so beautiful. I wonder if you’d even go out with a man like me.”

“So what did you say?”

“No.”

Sorry, but the trail of crushed hopes and desires that they leave behind them does make me laugh.

My daughter’s cousin (who was bridesmaid at the recent wedding) is also almost 6ft, stunning, works a Brixton bar and deals with the same shit constantly

This one too. She’s absolutely loving it so I’m looking forward to when she’s had her cocktail training :cocktail:
