Warwick is a great choice, my nephew loved it there. I’ve been to see a lot of bands at the Arts Centre over the years.

Back in the 1980’s I did a OU summerschool week there - Epic
Also seen plenty of bands there - Susan Vega, Richard Thompson Bill Bruford etc

Through the fog of war I understand that niece #2 has definitely got the grades to attend the foundation art course of her choice, and might even have assembled the appropriate documents necessary to secure her place.
She’s in Rome and it needs to be done by tomorrow 
She was projected to flunk at least one of her non-art subjects, but she got very respectable grades in both.

Mate’s stepson is in to do economics at Newcastle.
He struggled with maths but mate, who is very, very bright (he comes across as the brickie’s thick mate but he’s not, that’s his secret weapon) has taken the time to sit down with him and sort it out.

Niece #2 still has a lot to learn having today bought what she thought was a funky necklace only to have #1 tell her (after they’d left, obvs) that it was a rosary.
The photo of the pair of them with the embalmed body of Padre Pio (he may be long dead but we still be griftin’) is quite something

FoL got a 9 and a distinction for her one Year 10 GCSE and some PE coursework. Bodes well for next year

Proud Hubby moment.
Claire teaches GCSE maths, mostly to adults returning to education or younger adults needing a maths qualification for their apprenticeships or employment, a good proportion of her students speak English as a second or third language. You could say her task is really quite challenging, although her students do tend to be more motivated than others.
Anyway this year her students have achieved a pass rate of 69%, versus a national average of 17.4%.
Proud as punch for her!

I’ll be honest, the fact that maths only has a 17% pass rate astonished me.

Well, strictly speaking, re-sit maths (even more strictly, post-16 students).
Is that resits only?
Post 16(which is Claire’s cohort) is up on last year, I think resit resits results have dropped…
Edit: Claire tells me that all post 16 GCSE results from FE colleges are termed as resits, even if it’s a 60 year old who did their o level 45 years ago, and even if it’s a foreign student who has never sat a uk exam 
I suppose they have the finer detail in the stats somewhere.
Anyway, she smashed it.

Jack off to Paris today. His Paris Paralympic journey starts here.
First games on 29th August. Two singles and one mixed doubles.
One game on 30th. Singles.
Two games on 31st one singles and one mixed doubles.
Then hopefully finals on 1st and 2nd September.
We don’t know any times yet.

And three weeks later she has finally broken cover to say that UAL have confirmed her place.
I’m not sure how I feel about this since I’m on the hook for financing a chunk of it
