We have Ragdoll (designer cats).
One can’t hunt, won’t hunt! Too much of a show cat lady
The boy (is a large muscley chap), likes hunting mice. Usually brings them home alive! We have a routine…
They do not scratch anything👍 are cuddly enough👍 look pretty👍
Would be useless v a rat I think. Probably run and hide.
Air rifles… As a teenager we used to ‘help’ the local farmers who gave us consent. Shooting pigeon (law changed in 1981), rabbit, even the odd pheasant - got to get them square in the heart… tough fibrous buggers…
Butcher’s used to like em from us - not full of shot!
Some skill to this… getting close enough.
Dawn was the best time.
.22 imo doesn’t penetrate enough, esp tougher targets. Go .177.
I had a BSA straight barrel. Lever actuator - in theory a straighter shot.
Then a Webley.
Nice big scope meant you could shoot at dusk very effectively.
We used to tune them up, get the muzzle velocity up nicely.
Mirror polishing the chamber, better springs and after market sealing washers.
Not legal now I guess…
Transporting - you are not allowed to have a pellet in the pipe… the local police thought they’d catch us out!
Never had a clue how to check - seemed to think they might blow their heads off😂
By the sound of it, you’d be better off paying teenagers😂
Think a squad of young Kalebs from Clarkson’s farm, would do the job.
Got to say you’ll probably be better off paying a professional to lower vermin access to your house. That said shooting the fuckers is probably more satisfying and fun.
You’d want it strong enough to corrode them in front of your very eyes.
Building a glass or plastic moat would be fun.
Warn the posty etc.
Would stop slugs, foxes, village children.
Not cheap though.
You could patrol it from the listening chair with drones dropping acid bombs on any that cleverly made it across.
Pigeons though?!
Drones are the answer, noisy and with precision bombs, not your Russian rubbish!
The Fens. It’s all Anglian Water can do to keep everyone’s feet dry. After a few rainy days Steve’s ‘glass or plastic’ liner would be floating up like a boat.
