RIP Hifi Wigwam

Even if the bar did run out of beer after watching the rugby in one of the early shows (unless I am miss-remembering that after a few beers)

I feel it is a shame with the 'wam gone, I think I signed up in 2006, certainly was a home on the internet to chat and make friends.

I wonder how many guys here actually started out on zero gain back in the day

Not this one.

Pfm was my first forum in 2004.

Joined the wam in 05.

First bake off was at biscuit’s around 07,I had 4 cans of beer, and tripped over my seat belt getting out the car,one can burst and covered my top in beer…Luckily his mum answered the door.

I think that was my first bakeoff, as well.
Mibby plugged a Japanese 120v amp into 230v!! There was smoke, but it still worked.

Yep, joined 2003. Hifi Choice before that.

You’ve summed that up very well I think.

Yeah I was on Zerogain and WhatHifi forums originally I think.

My first bakeoff on the Wam was at Paul’s Bachelor Pad serial killer lair bungelow @Mrs_Maureen_OPinion in Banbury, he even picked my up from the station which was a bit of a leap of faith when meeting people off the internet!

Nor this one.

Signed up to the (early) Wam, and wasn’t strong enough to handle it.
Went to AudioMondo (or whatever it was called, along with Sam).
After a year I returned. End of….

Did faff around on WHF/HFC back around 2000ish but only started Wamming in 2012 while trying to find out who could fix my CD player.

I’ve said my part on it many times.

The most gratifying thing is the strength of the enduring friendships that came out of it.

The community was always the most important bit and despite many mistakes on my part and others that never really stopped. In fact it grew stronger.

All things must die.

My first bake off was a 300B shoot out at jonjin’s in Exeter or Truro (can’t remember)
It was 6th October 2007. I can be specific about the date as I sneaked off to the pub in the afternoon to watch England beat Australia in the QF of the RWC
I had no idea what a 300B was, had never heard a valve amp.
I sat on a sofa between Guy and Coco while they had a technical discussion in Martian
Didn’t understand a word of it.

I broke my forum hymen on the WAM and, despite a few rough run-ins over the years, it didn’t break me, sorta
