Roon redux

So, are all you Roon folk squeezing in a final few tunes before it All Stops Working And Never Works Again?

Yes. I had the ‘opportunity’ to run this new thing as a beta from early Jan. It took all of my limited diplomatic skills to explain that I kind of need it to work because of my job so politely declined the offer.

Not for the first time, I’m glad my content can be accessed independently of the Core though, just in case.

Don’t get your hopes up, it probably won’t work on any that are more than a year old.

This should be hilarious if I get the job with them.

Troll mode maximum

Use it in your interview. Will go down great.

If Spurs are Spursy, it seems Roon is Roony (e&oe). Still no sign of today’s update and now their forum has gone tits up by the looks of it. Oh Dear…

Edit: In shock news I appear to have updated all my devices and nothing has caught fire yet.

Perhaps if the guvnor gets a job there then he will be able to improve his forum-nuking skills.

Once in about 4 years is a pretty poor show IMO

Looks like lipstick on a pig so far. Haven’t looked at the classical stuff they’ve been raving on about.

I’ll break mine tomorrow I think. It’s all running perfectly OK right now and I think I’ll enjoy the novelty of listening to music for the actual pleasure of listening to music.

Certainly been some “borrowing” from Last.fm

Portrait mode on my iPad mini is a win as I don’t recall that working before. I’m not a great user of deep searches etc in Roon so as long as it feckin’ works I don’t care. I’ve been a lifer long enough that it owes me very little now. It is still better than anything else I’ve used…especially the Naim app shudder…

Crikey, if you think that Naim’s app is the nadir of network streaming you’ve lived a very sheltered life.

I used the Naim app in 2012 last. It was shite then. The simAudio Moon app rang rings around it then. I’ll be amazed if it hasn’t improved since then though as it was awful back then. Caused me to sell up the Great Wall of Naim so it wasn’t all bad.

Blimey, I think it was still ‘N-Stream’ at that point and, yes, it was shit. It’s perfectly serviceable these days though- one of the better one make bits of software tbh.

They are Roon-ready now aren’t they? I’ve no idea what they are up to these days. The Auralic and Lumin apps are great but I just use Roon so I don’t see them as very useful. It is one of the things I really like about having 4 endpoints. You do the same thing to play a file on any of them, which might not be true if you had to rely on the manufacturer’s apps or Pi-compatible apps. You just see a uniform interface and off you go. Other options are available but as I paid in years ago for a life membership Roon is now a freebie.

Yeah, all current Naim stuff is Roon ready- the Mu-So Qb2 in the kitchen just sits there as an endpoint. As you say, the enthusiasm for putting up with the bloat and whimsicality improves when you’re tying a few rooms together on it.

Nice euphemism.

What’s happened to the delineation of albums and singles in the streaming library? I am confus.

Well, I will say I prefer this;
