Twitter the fck out of them
This is worth a go buut, I might suggest emailing Henley Audio first who handle the Nucleus hardware in the UK and who employ adults. Iām pretty sure theyāll have a word with someone at Roon on your behalf.
Roon Nucleus Titan,
Intel i3 NUC 12 in a fanless case.
Thatāll be Ā£3700 please?
Thatās some tasty markup on what must be Ā£3-400 to put together with a fanless case.
A lot of guessing as well as Roon are refusing to say what the spec is.
Pretty shitty for a £3700 PC, knowing Roon it will only include a 1yr licence as well.
People are saying on the forum that based on the connector types it is a NUC 12 or possibly a 13. From photos of the case it could only displace around 100-150 Watts so couldnāt be anything more than a gen12 i3 or it would melt through the board.
You can see posts getting deleted real time on the roon forum as people speculate
Well, Iāve just cancelled my Roon subscription. Like @thebiglebowski Iām convinced there seems some low level signal processing going on, or some issue with the way it works, because thereās a slight ādeadeningā to everything I play through it. Their complete denial that such a thing could even be possible finally wore me down and overcame any benefits of the user interface.
Iām using Jplay and find it pretty good. The problem I have is that Roon limits my favourite albums to c50 and I keep getting random tracks loaded onto my QoBuz faves - could be a QoBuz issue but it also happened with Tidal so I may dump Roon too.
I only notice this effect if I ask roon to do literally anything with the signal path. Eg volume correction, EQ, resampling, or headroom management stuff. The second I enable anything it seems to flatten the sound and kill the life.
On clean signal path though, I canāt say I have any issues.
Maybe ill fire up auralic DS and compare
Yay, we shamed Roon into bringing back offline search. Sounds like Harman gave them a JFDI
Haha, bejeesus. I do like the cases theyāve gone with though!
Googled it.
At that price you would have thought they could have thrown in a disk
Yeah the case in wood is really cool, itās what made me click on the link.
Thought itās just a NUC in a case, how much could it cost
Weird to relate, I was chatting with the distributor a little while back and a huge number of Nucleus customers keep their libraries on a separate drive; either because it needs to be accessed by non Roon devices too (I do it for this reason) or because they believe their actual library is more audiophile or they simply want to build in some redundancy.
I guess from my perspective I would want to access it from my laptop and my phone. And I would trust my management of storage over Roonās any day
That and Roon only passively cool the CPU but donāt reduce the clock speed so the SSDs cook and fail after 366 days.
Even I as a total non techie saw through the fan/no fan shit. Itās the most rubbish marketing ever, in that they donāt sell the benefits.
