When we made the Ali and brass headshell nuts we made a few delrin ones as they are super light. They worked fine, but didn’t want to sell them on eBay as it was a cert someone would overtighten and screw up the threads

I managed to sell my Kiseki Purpleheart recently and used the funds raised to buy David’s @shrink Hana Umami Blue. First impressions are really very good. Thanks a lot David. You’ve made my day.

Have you a sense so far as to the presentational differences to the Kiseki?

It’s very early days. The Hana’s treble is very extended but I’m finding that it’s actually a touch smoother at the top end than the retipped Kiseki which is a good thing in my book.

Now the Kiseki has been sold, I more interested in how the Hana fares against the Phasemation. I tend not to go in for direct comparisons or do too much ā€˜critical listening’. Life is too short.

I knew after a couple of weeks with the retipped Kiseki that I still preferred the Phasemation - just a feeling that I wasn’t quite as satisfied.

I’ll spend the next couple of weeks playing some of my favourite records and I’ll know if the Hana edges out the Phasemation or vice versa. It’s pretty clear already that the Hana is a very classy performer.

I’m so happy you’re enjoying your initial impressions. I had compared it to my original transfiguration Phoenix (a bit more upfront and dynamic) and the clearaudio concerto (a bit soft in the mids and rolled off up top).

The Hana was the perfect middle ground for me and made almost everything I played on it sound ā€œniceā€.

I was sorry to let it go, as it had served me so well but I suspect an umami red is in my future!

I hope you get continued enjoyment

I’ve now had a few long sessions listening to the blue Hana.

Not beating about the bush, it suits my system exceptionally well. It’s a hit! :grinning:

40 quid of adequacy for the mancave system for Naxos Music Library reasons.

Audio Science Review certainly like them - be interested to hear how you get on.

What speakers will you be using them with?

Must be cheap then

At the moment they are just in a lashup with old Dean Alto 2 speakers (which are actually pretty good small boxes).
I’ll bring the Revelator-based AOS Studio 12 xl down in a bit - they are my standard speakers.

I’ve been using other TPA3255-based amps for a while (Aiyima A-07, BRZ and O-Noorus D3) and like the generic clean sound. The Fosi monos just seem to get things that little bit clearer (hearing previously undecipherable lyrics) and have good tonal balance.

About double the cost of my other 3255s, I’ll have you know! :grinning:

Sounds most promising :+1:

I’m sure they won’t be to everyone’s taste.

This pair were from the Kickstarter and have already passed through two other owners in as many months. Unlike them, though, I’ve been using 3255 amps for a while, and like what they do - most of my listening is to acoustic instruments and clarity is a major goal. You certainly don’t wallow in valvey warmth but to my ears they are not over-analytical either.

If I was spending Ā£multo000s then I’d expect something better, but I’m not.

I’ve had other class D and chip amps and so far prefer the 3255s.

Ymmv, as ever.

I really wonder what could be gained spending more? I’m not fully committed to the measurebator camp, but a power amp has a relatively simple job to do in turning a low level signal into enough voltage and current to thwack a pair of loudspeakers into action. Since the Fosi’s measure almost faultlessly - in some measurements the test equipment introduces more distortion! - then unless you have very difficult speakers, they should be as good as you ever need.

As I sit here I’m just starting to put this theory to the test - the NAD M23 is currently playing BBC 6 Music very competently indeed, and - given it’s 30C here - the box is not even tepid, which feels like reason enough to have it!

I can already hear that spoken-word intelligibility is better than with the already excellent First Watt J2. I’ve yet to experiment with single-ended vs. balanced cabling (balanced presently), and also have the NAD’s different gain levels to experiment with, as well as the AudioValve pre’s different gain structures…

Not overly impressed with mine. Despite the power rating being the same it takes much more from the pre to drive them to the same volume level as the ZA3. I also don’t think they sound as good as the ZA3

Driving the Sonus Fabers at fairly reasonable volumes (75dB) they run extremely hot as well

I’m still unconvinced about Class D.
