Similar experience. I have an AT 150MLX (currently not in use) that I’ve owned for ages. My favourite MM I’ve ever used. I’ll eventually replace the stylus, but it still has use in it. The direct replacement isn’t available anymore, the X in the MLX was for a gold plated boron cantilever.
I’m currently using a Hana with the Shibata tip on my Denon, so I’m a fan of both profiles. But a slight preference for Micoline
New (to me) Gershman speakers finally arrived from Estonia this morning and despite nearly 3 weeks in the postal system arrived unscathed.
Winner winner.
They look like puppyless watts.
Yes - similar concept in that they are like the mid and tweeter section of the bigger Gershmans.
Which in my now even smaller listening room (the left and back walls have come in by 4” due to the insulation work I had done earlier this month) is all I need.
Is it me or is that silicone or filler needing a word
Hope it’s caulk and not silicone
God knows - the insulation team have put it on the intersection of every wall they insulated.
The Government, who paid for it all, are coming on Friday to do an inspection - the firm that they contract to do it don’t get paid until that is done.
I have a few snagging issues.
How are they sounding Paul? Do they have a similar presentation to the ones I had?
Very fast, clean and detailed with no bass bloom at all. Very studio monitor’ish I guess.
Quite different to most speakers I’ve had.
Going through my usual favourites and getting acclimatised to them.
Update: Just put Tracey Thorn A-Z on and they definitely do bass as low as the Cenyas or Revel Gems I had, just tight with no overhang at all.
If anything they remind me a bit of the big Wilsons you had.
Yello - The Expert sounding pretty epic too.
Really starting to like them.
Interesting. Would love to hear them sometime.
You are always welcome Nick.
Busy rest of this week (PET scan on Thursday) but should be free for the next few weeks - still not working so anytime or day that suits.
Alternatively happy to bring them over to yours.
The Etsuro carts from Excel Sound Corp have intrigued me mainly due to the Hana relationship. They seem to receive almost universal praise so I have been on the hunt for a Cobalt Blue and managed to find a very low hours one which arrived from the US today. Next up the hierarchy is the Bordeaux (again a low hours one) but this is the special edition version that Mik/Unique Audio produce upping the 0.25mv output to 0.4mv giving increased dynamics over the standard version (at a cost).
The Cobalt Blue fitted and wow. Just so clean and dynamic. Admittedly I am only a couple of hours in but the clarity is exceptional even at very low volumes. I’m going to live with the Blue for a while before switching to the Bordeaux which should be mind blowing
That looks great. A bit of a low-rider? How easy is it to see the cantilever on the protractor?
I have a Bordeaux SE, it’s a nice cart
I’m really looking forward to hearing it but I’m going to take some time with the Cobalt Blue first now that I only have one turntable. The Bordeaux came up for sale a few days after I bought the Blue. I wasn’t looking for one but couldn’t resist as trying to find a used one further down the line might be a challenge especially one of Mik’s versions.
It flows,
