Michell Orbe SE with SME V purchased from @Mickyricky at the weekend. Thanks for bringing it to Paul’s bake Mickey Needs a new belt so can’t try it out yet but I’m looking forward to hearing it as soon I as I get that sorted.
Returned the Denon 2800H and swapped it up for the AVC3800H for better Audessey reasons.
Hooked it up to the B&W M1 and SVS SB3000 and ran Audessey XT32 through the phone app.
After some tweaking and messing I sent the results to the Denon and now it’s all sounding sublime (5.1).
The bass has made me jump a few times when anything dynamic is on!
Paging @edd9000 HiFi Forsale | Buy this used Naim NAP 500 power amplifier from K4 POG HiFi on HiFi Forsale
Bargains.
@Myrman buy Speedmaster.
Yes they apparently only stopped making them because the designer left - so not that many knocking around now.
Guilty as charged but to be fair the thread was getting into the outer nebula of the horn universe and the search for speakers will continue…
Well finally it appears I’m getting somewhere with my ailing Luxman amp.
I received word today that IAG had finally noticed the intermittent fault after nearly five weeks of testing ! So after consultation with Luxman Japan they have replaced something ( I don’t know what yet ) and have it on a 24/7 soak test until next Monday and if everything is ok will ship it back to me.
I haven’t used it since the beginning of November so I only hope it still sounds as good as I (vaguely) remember
PS5 can have a rest.
Probably an incremental upgrade, but I was curious. Local Richer Sounds have 40 coming in end of the month and all are pre sold!

How’s it sounding now and what did you change
Well lots of DIYers report that the Niobiums take a long time to settle in I’ve maybe put 70 hrs on it since getting it back.
It does sound very nice, different in character to the Sony SIT monoblocks, bit more 3D in the midrange, overall a bit more bite to the sound.
After a few more hours on it I’m going to put the monoblocks back in to get a better feel for the differences. At the moment I expect that the monos are an easier listen and have the edge in smoothness maybe.
I also think that the Tokin SIT amp with the DHT preamp would be a fabulous match with less sensitive speakers than mine.
Reading with intent
I’ll have to stick some jazz on and record a little video on my phone so you can make a precise assessment
Don’t be so, so crass
I have decided, at least for the time being, that I like the SL10 enough to hook it up permanently to the Vida.
The white platform that the SL-10 was standing on was starting to bug me due to reasons of ugliness. As a result I bought a holesaw bit for my drill and have put the Vida in the centre cupboard. Zen restored.
I’m beginning to get the Tannoy itch!!
Or Fyne…
Treatment is available but can be expensive.
Probably best I just go and listen to a few different ones to get it out of my system.
Yes. You really do need to hear them before doing anything rash. They’re not everyone’s cup of tea.
I’ve never heard Fynes and my experience with Tannoys is quite limited but in general terms the bigger the better. 15" drivers in huge cabs is the way to go.
I’ve owned Berkeleys and while I enjoyed them at the time I wouldn’t really recommend them. The cabs are a bit small for the driver. I suspect that the Cheviots would be a better balanced speaker.
I heard a pair of Legacy Eatons at a friends and thought they were really excellent in the context of his system.
FWIW, I’m delighted with my Monitor Gold 15s in Lockwood cabs and have no plans to change them.
Seems the choice is between decent-sounding speakers.
Or Tannoys.
