Shiny brand new second hand things in my system today

I figure I need to haul my R2R to bake offs like @Jim’s and record my LPs to tape on his mega vinyl playback system.

What model 300b amp is that?

Its a Music angel 300b but it has been modified (by David Wright) with a large off board valve heater supply, transconductance stuff and a few other bits - Plus then someone added some discrete front panel VU’s for valve bias.

Apex appear to have been in Barnstaple but aren’t trading now. There appears to be another transformer manufacturer in Ireland called Apex but I don’t know if they are related.

I E core lamination are one type that are stacked and assembled together incorporating a (usually plastic) bobbin carrying the required transformer windings.

C core lamination is an alternative way of constructing a transformer.

but transformers can also be constructed on a laminated toroidal core.

“The Bard’s Headspace” by Sonneteer.

You plug your head/earphones in one end, and then plug it into your source. It gives a sense of space rather than the sound bouncing around the inside of your head.

£16.39 delivered, and it works and it sounds nice.

I’ve ordered one as well, so glad you’re pleased with it.

More shiny

I had to polish it and get the crap dirt off it and it smelt of weed really badly

Any good?

I plugged it into my main system and set it to 0.25mv and 100ohms for the Ortofon Rhondo Bronze and it surprised me how good it is.

Plus- great imaging and loads of detail, wide wide imaging. Doesn’t sound etched, just nice and smooth.
Minus- slight lack of real bass power and slam, you have to take the front off to change settings.

For the money I paid, brilliant thing. You wouldn’t notice the bass issue if you don’t have full bandwidth.

Better than the Trichord and Michell ISO HR I had by some margin.

:joy: It wasn’t me who made you buy them, it was that little noise at the back of your head (buy, buy, buy).

£330 good price.
