VU meters on a pre-amp? I think not. On a poweramp they are fine but are secondary considerations to shin-threatening heat fins and enormous weight.
Every item should have VU meters. One day when I’m bored I’m going to put together a complete system that has VU meters on every single component.

To be fair to you, as a Range Rover owner, meters moving correctly, and indeed at all, is probably a novelty, so I can see the attraction for you with the kit…
