Shiny brand new second hand things in my system today

Yep, first pic is my listening position. The soundstage is now huge which I think is more to do with the room than the distance from the speakers. I have the speakers toed so they cross about 2ft in front of me and that seems to give the best soundstage, don’t feel I need to be any closer, if anything I’d like to be further away still.

The biggest difference now is that at low volumes the sound fills the room whereas in the old house the bass seemed to boom and I had to crank it up a bit to get any detail or clarity.

Presumably you’re not going to leave the pre on top of it then?

Definitely not. This was just to make a single photo.

Minority interest, but my latest addition is one of these

SanDisk Ultra 256 GB microSDXC…

£37.49

for my phone, moving from a 128 Gb card.

This really does hold an awful lot of albums in FLAC

You’ve really got to wonder, or at least I wonder, about the prices of some of the “audiophile” server products out there.

I’ve noticed a lot of differences in quality of sound from phones though. My LG G3 was much better than the Pixel. Although now I have Bluetooth headphones, so I guess it’s all gone away.

I have often wondered who buys those heinously expensive Astell & Kern products… And they update/refresh their lineup all the time.

I have one going cheap. Used once.

Speaking of big SD cards, anyone bought stuff from this lot?

By a decent brand, more important than where you buy it from. I think they’re ok though, I’m sure I’ve bought from them in the past.

New to me, a bit of a departure from my usual speaker faff…

(Not my photo)

A pair of Larsen 4.2s. Designed to work up against the rear wall or in corners. I have been looking into these over the past couple of years but a pair never came up locally or at the right time.
Certainly very different to the Rega R9s or the Supravox Open Baffles, I like that they are pretty fit and forget and un-obtrusive.
