We have this view that ‘everything is made in China’ but I suspect ‘everything’ is a smaller number than we realise, especially for time sensitive or precision items.

That a modern washing machine may have a 3-phase motor, despite almost no households having a 3-phase mains supply. I guess the savings on motor size and efficiency must outweigh the cost of the power electronics needed to synthesise from scratch a 3-phase supply for it !
