Archery, shooting,… javelin! All would be livened up immensely with hallucinogens, and with no crowds it would be ‘safe’ too
No amount of drugs can make Steve Cram commenting on 10,000m races interesting though

New study finds that magic mushrooms are betterer than some anti depressent dugs…the hippies were right:)
It was probably a bit more sciency than that, but that’s my take away.
Good enough for me bud
(…just need some rain and frost-free nights now.)
I have a friend who micro doses himself with mushrooms he grows from a kit, they seem to have made a positive difference for him. I did see a study a little while back that suggested the improvement was down to the placebo effect. There’s nothing placebo about the effect of a few grams of them dried and powdered though…
Some of the studies for psychedelics used in working with PTSD sufferers is quite compelling. The rise of microdosing in silicon valley (Those zany creative types) seems to ad to the ground swell of interest in therapeutic ‘value’ Whilst this all seems obvious the Murcans are hamstrung by big pharma lobbyists…Strangely they are quite against it (Until they can fully monetize, like they have with cannabis)
If you fancy a more in-depth listen this is a good funny podcast on it

What is this sorcery???
Is it a lightweight shell containing a spring-loaded rotor ? Spinning it one way tries to unwind the spring (probably prevented by a stop of some sort) and that’s easy. Spinning it the other tightens the spring up, storing energy at the expense of slowing the whole thing down. The energy is then released by inducing an overall spin in the opposite direction. Just a guess. There might be an easier way of doing it.

Nope nothing mechanical
Basically produced by careful shaping then, So there’s an offset between a) the point of contact with the surface that the top’s spinning on and b) the top’s natural rotational axis. The resulting torques set up instabilities much more effectively in one direction than the other. In the first case the change in angular momentum is balanced, via the frictional contact point, by opposite momentum taken up by planet earth.
That suggests it wouldn’t reverse if spun in free-fall (let’s try it - the ISS has to be useful for something !) whereas I think the mech I guessed at would.

Genuinely one of my favourite YouTube channels. Delightfully nuts
It was only a matter of time and Murricans
