Shit you just learned (probably from the internet.)

It was how subtle but effective the adjustments were. He definitely changed appearance but (except for a dodgy tash) not so blatantly that you really noticed it had happened. And the voices… I don’t know how much of that was him vs the computer, but it was (again) subtly done.

SiL’s household is down to the last kilo of rice from BiL’s March 2020 Armageddon shopping.

From memory he also imported ~75kg of pasta. Not sure what the pasta situation is like.

Oh, and then there’s the industrial quantities of tinned pheasant stew :man_shrugging:

Car insurance for youngsters is a joke. I know it’s always been theft but bloody hell. My lad is about to start lessons so I thought I’d get a quote to add him to my car (mini cooper auto) on his provisional license. A grand. No questions of how much he’ll drive it, but a grand for 8 months.

Honestly, that’s not a dud quote - You could go in for one of those boxes that tracks performance etc which may whittle it down - it will also whittle your driving chi in the process.

I guess not.

We added both ours to Claires car, using a specialist learner insurance company, it was done on a monthly basis until they passed their tests and it was about £40 a month iirc . Both of them got their own cars before they passed so we just transferred the policy over and the price didn’t go up.

Because of covid it took ages for FoL#1 Ellie to get a test so she earned a years no claims, which was handy.

FoL#2 Lauren passed a couple of weeks ago and the best quote we could get was £1400 for a 2010 1.4 Fiesta, with a black box, and us as named drivers. She is still only 17 though.

I looked up the stats. 16 to 19 yr old are 3.5% of the driving population yet account for 6% & 9% of deaths and accidents respectively. These latter figures reduce as they age toward 25.

I remember my Dad complaining that as he got older his insurance was going up again.
He said that he didn’t think it fair as he wasn’t a boy racer and didn’t take the risks that young drivers did but was being charged the same as them.
I tried to explain that young drivers rarely go the wrong way down a motorway or drive down a slip into the sea like old dodderers do but he wasn’t having it!

Harsh but fair. :grinning:

Taking his licence away and telling him he couldn’t drive any more was one of the hardest things I have done.

That’s on the horizon for me too.

My Dad is 89 in Feb and his eyesight is not what it was, it’s only a matter of time. When he had his last eye test they told him he was ok to keep driving but I’m not sure that Specsavers are the ultimate authority on that decision.

It won’t be a massive hit for him though, he did 200 miles between his last two MOT dates. Goes almost everywhere on the bus!

Life can be cruel.

Because of his Alzheimers, he didn’t remember the conversation and we had to have it over and over again
