We sell shit off to other nationalised companies who suck the profit out of this country but that’s better cause it’s cheaper. Zero thought of where the profits are going.
It’s been argued for a while that the UK still has a state-owned railway system, just now the states that own it don’t include the UK
Our railways subsidise many national carriers in Europe. Buy a Brit rail, it will shore up our extremely cheap and efficient national railway.
It’s a fucking joke tbh.
How do they subsidise other State carriers? Just how much profit do the private UK rail companies make, is it freaky that excessive?
The European railways see UK Rail as a cash cow. They run our railways shift profits to their own rail companies. Shoulda been clearer.
They are out now, essentially left the business when the franchiise deals ended.
After they sucked billions out the system, left us with shite services and the tories proclaimed it was a great success.
I get that, but outside of the end of pandemic profits when the govetnment didn’t charge for ending that deal early, thus allowing the companies to bank the money they had set aside for this, im wondering what the profits are?
Sure, it will go back to their respective State coffers, how much it subsidises a States railway, maybe 1%?
Why would nationalised companies invest in other countries infrastructure?
To make a profit, same as any investor.
Exactly, Im not sure what your point is here. They invest profits in their own countries
The Italian company is only partly state owned, as are many others following EU rail deregulation. A lot of that profit goes to investors outside of the State.
I dunt think the finance is as simple as made out.
I suppose the important question is how should uk rail be funded.
It should be nationalised
It was interesting that the Government were prepared to take back the bits that the ‘investors’ didn’t want i.e. Railtrack, where the risk and investment requirement lies but, happily sold off the profitable bits.
If it was nationalised than the profits could go into sorting the infrastructure and providing a better service rather than the rail companies trying to maximise profits by shafting the staff.
The current dispute is all about profit for foreign investors against British jobs.
It is a fucking disgrace the way this is reported
Abellio, Dutch National, sucking the best spunk out the country with the blessing of the government.
What dose nationalised mean? A returnm to the monolith BR? We could do that now we are outside the EU. Train companies in the EU can’t do that and run a variety of different models, all include private investment and have to split operator and rail infrastructure.
UK rail companies also run rail services in Europe, even in Germany. We could do more of that.
For the benefit of the nation.
France do
The SNCF, the national state-owned railway company, operates most of the passenger and freight services on the national network managed by its subsidiary SNCF Réseau .
The French just find a way to do what they want and stay within EU rules
A little while back I started buying postage on line for convenience and you can print off an address label etc. I was chatting to the guy who runs our local PO he told me that he gets paid nothing for processing these parcels. I see now that when you book a delivery on line Royal Mail will collect it from your address, I wonder how many post offices will be left in a few years.
