Shit you just learned (probably from the internet.)

Enjoy.

who was originally Jimmy Miller

Because she needed a song for a play in the US, and he was in the UK (and banned from the USA because of his communist sympathies). IIRC.
Peggy Seeger sings it in different ways, and can do a really lovely version.

Yes, I also found that version earlier.

I’m not a huge fan but this LP is decent.

I’m guessing “Mars-Bar Marianne” is more in Stronzetto’s line?

This is nice.

Hardly new though!
You will be telling me you have never heard the album ‘Broken English’ next :grinning:

That The Science Museum think the Quad 303 power amp, 33 control unit and associated FM tuner were made by Thorens

e.g. https://collection.sciencemuseumgroup.org.uk/objects/co8622041/quad-303-power-amplifier-by-thorens

I have sent them an e-mail.

Sadly, there’s hardly anyone left in our national museums that has a fucking clue what they’re doing.#

What there are, are a few middle-class white girls with a first degree in “Museums Studies” (roughly equivalent to putting the Boys Brigade in charge of D-Day), plus a few middle-class white ladies with an arts background (PR at the Saatchi, own blog on “Guerilla-Knitting As An Expression of Gender Warfare”, &c.), and lots-and-lots of wholly-unemployable middle class white 20-somethings who are getting “work experience” by doing volunteering work - to keep them away from home while mummy bangs the gym instructor or necks Prosecco all afternoon…

It’s fucking tragic how much expertise has been lost in the last 30 years (i.e. >90%) - and there is absolutely no-one in any position of influence that gives a flying fuck. Indeed, there are scarily few people qualified to make any kind of a qualitative judgement at-all…

[ # There are some, and they’re brilliant, hard-working, awesome people, but there are FAR too few, and they are never replaced when they leave… ]

A friend of mine, Alison, does know her subject and still doubles, when she can get some time off, as a working archaeologist. But she’s roughly my age, so will be retiring soon. Come to think, I must ask her if she knows anyone with expertise in paint conservation. I have a nice amp which has its irreproducible paint peeling off after running too hot for too many years.

Last I heard (a few weeks ago) she was on strike as part of an effort to resist academic ‘casualisation’.

A tiny glimmer of light in a benighted world :+1:

AA tagline?

I’d go with "A tiny glimmer of shite in a stained, porcelain world…"

Is this the new fundraising arm of AA?

And before anyone asks, there are ads for these in the loos at Killington Lake Services…

I think they are missing a trick, there should be flatulence shoes judging by the latest spat over in the ‘how to stink up a foot & soul thread’.
