Great news @Rob998, presumably after the period of enforced slavery youā€™ll be able to escape to Lopwell after all?

@MJ2, hope Sarah gets well again soon.

Thanks Guy.

Best wishes to you and Sarah, Mike :+1:

Thanks Terry.

Hope everything works out well for Sarah.:crossed_fingers:

Just a shout out to the NHS for some of the preventative and scanning work they do,
I got a text for a Targeted Lung Cancer check.
Presumably from GP data.
Quick telephone questionnaire and I now have an appointment next week for a F2F appointment and CT Scan at a mobile unit.
Criteria were, aged 55 to 74 and a history of smoking

Pleased to be on the programme!

Just pondering my neighbour.

I finally spoke to her this morning after a big hiatus.

It has been obvious that something was going on.

ā€œIā€™ve had cancer. Lots of surgery in September and Iā€™ve just finished chemoā€

Just boggled that some of these illnesses can be cured, and thatā€™s it.

And the NHS. Some people need it, others donā€™t, we all pay into a pot. I can see my mother pulling all sorts of faces and trying to make ā€œsocialistā€ rhyme with ā€œchild murdererā€ or ā€œwar criminalā€

[sanctimonious pfm mode] we all need the NHS but not all need to use it [/sanctimonious pfm mode]

Iā€™ve just got back from the opticianā€™s who tell me that Iā€™ve got a ā€˜great bigā€™ cataract in my right eye, which explains its worsening out-of-focusness and, when things are out of focus, the double-vision Iā€™m getting. Iā€™ve left with a referral for surgery.(currently a 4-6 week wait, apparently). Itā€™ll be good to get that sorted.

They were very busy so the woman who saw me was just finishing up with another (ahem, very elderly) customer who had come in complaining that she couldnā€™t see clearly when she was driving. The staff in the opticianā€™s had to point out that she was confused (=wrong) about which were her reading glasses and which were her distance ones. ā€œYou need your DISTANCE glasses for driving.ā€ I could hear them shouting. Repeatedly. Confused she might be, but Iā€™ll bet sheā€™s still driving :scream:.

Had a leaflet through the door this morning from some clinic next to Derriford Hospital (where Gill had a hip replaced on the NHS f.o.c) with a price list showing Hips Ā£10700, Knees Ā£11200 and cataracts Ā£1995. They call it ā€˜self-payā€™ surgery & promise 4-6 weeks rather than 46 weeks (their line)

This is the future. Vets have led the way. :unamused:

I had exactly the same symptoms. Itā€™s now a week since I had the op and itā€™s been brilliant.

Aaron Banks and his mates will be writing to you shortly after with an offer of low monthly payments insurance towards those ā€˜eventualitiesā€™ā€¦

One advantage of private cataract surgery is that you can get fairly sophisticated lenses that can remove the need for reading glasses. When I need cataract surgery (which might be soon, according to the eye hospital), Iā€™ll look into the range of things available like that.

Their partner ā€˜Chrysalis Financeā€™ are using the rear of the leaflet to inform me of a range of funding options (0% over 12 months or 14.9% over 36 months) to allow me to spread the cost.

Had both my eyes done. Was punted out to a private organisation. Was offered corrected lenses but stuck with standard and free jobbies. Main effect is enhanced colour vision. I can now tell difference between blacks e.g. is that black a very dark brown or blue? My partner has just had her first cataract op in Ysbyty Gwynedd hospital, but then she also has glaucoma. Presumably a bit of cherry picking.
